What is up with these TV fishermen using those faggy looking gloves that velcro on to your belt. At the end of a good day fishing, I better be a charter member of the "Raw Thumb Club" Do they know just how silly they look? Even as a sponsor they couldn't pay me enough to wear one of those redic looking things. Now I suppose they will say it doesn't remove the slime from the fish or somthing like that but hey, I lip em' (and no I don't dislocate their jaw). Does anyone have one of these? If so, enlighten me please!!

TOXIC - Never saw or heard of this, got any URL's to check it out? Maybe we need to change our CD's from Hammertime to I'm Bad!!!

Bob Izumu uses one. Seems like too much trouble to me!

I don't use one fishing for bass or panfish but let me tell you they work on pike, walleye, and salmon. Of course, I don't carry them on my belt but have them inside the jacket pocket. Still, my hands are so sore now that holding any type of fish would be difficult (just got back from a week of salmon fishing).

The ones I've seen are red, look like toxic chemical gloves (no pun intended) and when not in use they are velcroed (I assume) to the fishermans side. Yeah pike are slimy but you can't usually pick them up with one hand (unless you gill em'). I've seen these on fresh and salt shows but have never seen them advertised as a sponsor. I just figured they were too wimpy to lip em'. Cause even with the glove I wouldn't be putting my hand in a pike or eye's mouth anyway. Next thing you know they'll be putting on red leather jackets complete with chains, glittery pants and penny loafers with white socks. (then I'll set their hair on fire)

Spend a week or so straight on the ocean or catching numbers of walleye and you'll think it's not so bad an idea. It is really handy safely releasing under sized salt water fish and after a couple of days in Canada catching 75-80 walleye a day, it keeps your hands from being shredded. Catch and release 50-200 fish a week, every week, and you'll see why they are becoming more and more popular. Several different mfg.'s offer them.

Dan,

I've caught 100 fish a DAY (smallmouths) on the Shennandoah and didn't need a glove (lippin em all)...now I admit a a walleye might be a little different but don't you just carefully lift them by the gill plate or do you belly lift them all. BTW after a 100 fish day my thumb was hamburger and boy did I love it!!

Torn up thumbs are nice...

However, you can REALLY brag and show off to your fishing buds when you got teeth marks from those bass past your thumb...up on the palm of your hand...then you know you were landing some BIG ONES!!!

That is true....my buddy tried to help me out Monday by hand landing a 4 pounder that I had caught, he didn't notice that I hooked him down and out of the bottom jaw. When he pulled him up outta the water he sunk a #2 Gammagatsu waaaayy into the palm of his had. I gotta admit it was funny watchin him jum all over and not be able to let go of the fish or get the hook out. Yeah, I finally helped him..... I took the fish....whatta pal!!

Yeah, sandblasted thumbs and a white T-shirt full of cull marker is a sure give away at a tourney when you're trying to convince everyone that you did bad! They usually figure it out when your arm is getting thrashed around in the livewell as you try to pull the fish out and into the weigh bag. Having an over excited mom on shore hollering doesn't help either, but I still don't need no stinkin glove, because I'm bad, I'm bad, you know it! And I like Toxic have had days over 100 smallies, lipped them all and lived to tell the story. Hey Marke, remember your May trip, did we use and gloves? Or Buzz, the day I caught over 50 LM with a jig.....NO glove! Walleye, ah shucks, ya just gotta gill em and toss them right in the livewell for dinner!

TOXIC,some times when its pretty cold I wear a thin pair of neoprene gloves when I fish, and when you lip a bass with them on the teeth stick tight. You can almost open your grip without the fish falling off. While I too wear the "bass thumb"like a trophy its a little different with a $100,000 fish trying its dangest to jump off the end of your thumb. If it came down to it I would wear goofy gloves, socks, and skivvies if they saved that fish.

Steve,

Yeah, I suppose I would too but dang man......can't they make any color other than RED?? LOL Sticks out like a "sore thumb", get it----sore thumb.....yuck, yuck, yuck.
