I just got an offer from Mercury for an extended warranty on my 150 XR6. The price seems kinda outrageous for protecting a simple carb-ed outboard. It would make more sense if I had the EFI or the Optimax because of the electronics involved.

As long as I take care of my scheduled maintenance, keep things clean and do proper winterizing and storage, wouldn't I prevent most potential problems to begin with?

Rich,

Could you remove this? I typed the wrong thing in the message title. Thanks.

I agree MO,...no need to pay extra to protect the oldest technology in the book.........just keep it oiled and you'll be fine for a loooooooong time,.....my buddy has an old XR6 on his 176 Champ and that motor purrs like a kitten when it's warm....it's a little sluggish to start,...likes to cough and sputter, but once it's warm it goes like a banshee!!!

Mark -

I've never been one to purchase extended warranties on anything.

And, after ALL the things that I've posted that I wish I could take back..... Rich'll do anything for us - EXCEPT edit! Once you've said it, you gotta live with it!

That's life!

:^)
