Mac, Did Kevin give you those fish?

One of my anniversary presents from my bride of twenty-five years was Kevin VanDam's book, "Secrets of a Champion." Of course the most important part of the book is the excellent work inside by our own Bill McElroy (Mac).



So far the book has been great and Mac's illustrations reveal his usual brilliance. However, Mac's photo on the back cover shows him with two beautiful smallies. So Mac, if you catch fish like that on a regular basis, maybe we should write the book about you and let Kevin do the illustrating?



Good job Mac as well as Kevin and Louie.

ahahaha....no doubt,.....wana know the REAL truth behind that pix??....That was on the Detroit River in Sept. of 2000. Mini and I were helping find fish for the Nat'l Sales Mgr of Mustad who was over here (he lives in NY) to fish a "Skeeter Owner's tournament" He'd never fished the system before so we took him out to show he and his partner around. The wind was howling and Erie was NASTY!! We stayed in the Detroit river for awhile then went up to the south shore of 'Clair. Those 2 fish came off a spot in the river on back to back casts,...I got the one that went 4.5lbs and Mini caught the biggest one that went 5+!..LOL...I give credit where it's due!!) We didn't let a photo opp like that go by, so we took photo's with Nitro hats and with Mustad hats on...hahaha.....When Louie called me and said that Kevin wanted to put my pix on the back cover and they needed a good photo,..I thought,.."Geez,..I've got just the one!...ahahaha"...I fished that exact spot again today with Ken and we didn't get a bite......so I chalk it up as a "fall spot"...ahaha

I've fished it several times since then and never got fish like those 2 again!....I guess the photo God's were smilin' on us that day! Fish like that are common though,,,no doubt...just gota find'em!! That's the hard part,...the smilin' afterwards is EASY!!

BTW...Glad you liked the book!! That was quite an honor for me! Louie and Kevin both told me I'll be doing their next one too! Can't wait!!

I'm still impressed with the fish and the book. Now the story behind the picture makes it all that much better.

Mac just keeps fishing my "stuff" lol.....just riding ya big dog.



It is a good fall spot and we should hit it next month for a few more of those fish!
