Lower Unit Gear Oil

Some performance/speed guys at the water's edge told me to drain the Merc gear oil and put in "Mobile 1 Synthetic 75-90" and I would pick up 200 rpm's. Does anyone run this and would Merc warrenty be ok with this? 2008 115 Opti

Ive never done it and no the merc warranty would not be good with it. Marine gear lubes are designed to still work even with some water in the gearcase where mobile one is not. If you want a full synthetic lube get the Merc high performance stuff.

I can't pick up 200 RPM's...I'd be over the limit

Pick up RPM's at the wheel and no other place. A recipe for disaster is likely to ensue when other avenues are sought.
