Met g8rmac this morning for the first time to do some fishing on the lower Potomac. Like all NTOWS members I've met, great guy with the same passion for fishing as all of us! Starting out the morning in Mattawoman with this:

Then got another even bigger (2 lb 15 oz by the digital scale)! Picture of that one didn't save to camera - Oh well! G8rmac also got one back in the creek. We swapped some great fishing stories and headed over to Aquia.

G8rmac was da man in the late morning fishing bagging this baby:

This one came the next docks over!

Heat was on by about 12:30pm and we had to run back to Leesylvania so we called it quits then. Not a bad way to spend a morning - meeting a new NTOWS buddy and catching a few fish. Next, he'll have to come down to Lake Anna for some of the hot tub bass!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

Thanks for the kind words, Jim. I really enjoyed the day; any time on the water is good, but it's always better when you have someone to share the lies...err, I mean stories, with.:D

Looks like fun! You are fishing right where I launch from Jim! How was the water after all the rain? Sue said ti was raining to beat the band yesterday.

Hey Carlos!

I thought the launch looked familiar!! Lots of boats going out mid-morning (seemed to be a disproportionate share of thru-hull exhaust boats especially). Water was a bit stained, but not bad at all. What got me was how thick the grass was everywhere!! Main lake didn't have much debris (again, a pleasant surprise). Best I can figure, it was because most of the heaviest rains were well south of DC.

Carlos-the water was a little rough aroung 8 AM or so because of wind, but it was clear around the grass beds, no trash yet. That will probably come in a day or so as the upstream stuff gets washed down. Right now it was just like a slalom course because of all the fish trap buoys. Seemed like a thousand of them between Leesylvania and Aquia.

Hey g8rmac,

I don't understand what you mean by "fish trap bouys"? Just what are they and are they legal?

Uncle Billy

It's the small marker bouys the commercial fishermen use to mark their pots. They are legal, I've just never seen as many in one area.

gG8rmac wasn't kidding about the crab pots - must be peak season or something because you couldn't go 100 yards without seeing a ton of those annoying buoys out there! Oh, and why the heck does some crabber insist on using BLACK bouys! Might as well paint them green to match the water!!

Jim, Try the upper bay, they are thicker than Black Flys in Michigan... Oh and you get points for dodging the black ones at safe light. LOL

Eltwon and I didn't do as well on the upper Potomac Sunday morning. A few bites and Paul lost a keeper at the boat. We had a good day though. I talked with my Dad and they had a tournament on the Ohio River Sunday. He said they were catching smallmouth on jigs like they were going out of style. Oh well, the fish always seem to be where I'm not!
