Hi,

Thought I would post my first question here and continue trying to figure out why (actually I think I know the why...) and come up with a solution to allow my FF to continue reading the bottom (depth) while my boat is on plane.

I have a two month old 2005 PT175 with 75hp Merc. Everything works wonderful but I get nervous planing on unfamilar water without knowing where the bottom is... I have lowered to stock Lowarnce x-37ex transducer bracet as far as it will go.

When I eyeball the line from the transducer to the bottom of the hull (this PT175 has a stepped hull) it apears to me the transducer loses clean water while the boat is on plane. At this point all I can think of doing is dropping the transducer down lower using some homemade McGyver brackets.

Would really appreciate and thoughts and suggestions on this issue and how I might regain contact with da bottom.

Thanks in advance for your time and sharing your experiences with this new boater.

A friend of mine had a similar problem with his pt 185. The transducer on his was mounted on the higer part of the step on the left side of the boat. The only cure was to move the tranducer down onto the bottom step closer to the centerline of the boat where it would run in clean water all the time. To put it simply tracker screwed up when they mounted these transucers. They are in the wrong place. Moving it completly cured his problem.

Try pointing the ducer down some. Sonetimes just a degree or 2 will make the difference.

Our transducer is mounted on the upper portion of the stepped-transom also (PT175). Last time we were out I had the boat going about 20mph (according to gauge), and still had the bottom showing on the electronics. As suggested above, might be the sensitivity setting.
