Just purchased a new 911 CDC; also new to this board. I am looking for a through bolt type lock for the trailer and having difficulty finding something that will work, as the hole where the safety pin goes is about 3 1/2" wide and most locks are not this wide. I'd rather not use a cable lock, as they can be cut pretty easily. I fish Clear Lake in California at night often, and the ramp is located in a "very" shady part of town. After a hard night of fishing, I'd like my trailer to be there when I return! Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike:)

Master lock makes a good set of locks. You will need both a receiver lock and a hitch lock. West marine or any good boat shop should have them.

Congrats on the new boat! You're smart to want to protect the new purchase. Check out the website below for a variety of locks, coupler locks, ball locks, trailer locks, etc. Personally, I use a combination of locks to make sure the trailer stays put! Of course, given enough time, a determined thief will get what he/she wants. If the area where you launch is that bad, you may want to start looking for safer access points!

Good luck.

Mike,

I had the same problem with my Nitro. There are locks that are long enough. You may have to go online to find them. Are you close to Dixon? I got mine at Gone Fishin Marine. As mentioned you will need a reciever lock and a hitch pin lock. From the website above I would select the "Trailer Coupler Lock wtih 3 3/8" span" for the Nitro hitch. I don't fish Clear Lake much at night but I've seen it plenty during the day and it's bad enough then. Don't forget to lock up your spare. They will take it if it's not locked. You might even consider locking lug nuts on your rims. I got them for my Triton just because they are pretty nice aluminum rims and the crackheads might just steal them and sell for scrap to a recycler.

Jesus that sucks you have to worry about things that badly. Almost be worth having someone drop you and take the trailer home then come and get you when you are ready to leave.

Thanks for the replys...I found one online that will work; Duralock Universal Coupler 3 3/8". Yes, I already have locks for my receiver, tandem boat rims, spare rim, as well as my "very" expensive 20" rims on my Chevy SS. Yes, you do have to worry everytime you put in pretty much anywhere along Clearlake, day or night: CRACKHEADS!!!! I guess that is the one drawback to fishing one of the premier bass lakes in the world!

Congrats on the new boat, I also just recently joined this site after buying my 911. I must congratulate you as well on your fine taste in boats.
