Just got a 1999 nitro nx 882, and not to familiar with the live well system. When heading to a different fishing spot, what do I want the switch on?? Fill, Empty, or Recirculate??? I thought I was to put it on recirculate but I did that over the weekend, and I was in a tourney, and half way back to the marina I opened up the live well just to check it out and it was empty. Thank god I was able to revive the fish, but should I have the switch on fill. Im talking about the switch on the right hand side bye the throttle, not on the console. Also was pretty rough out there where I was and my engine cowl broke off as well, pretty bad day. Was able to manage a 4th place finish with only 3 fish, spent most of the day trying to keep my cowl tied down. Thanks for any advise on the live well.

recirculate and make shure you put in your plug after filling the well...same thing happened to me only it was half full..

I fished a BASS tourney on Tenn-Tom Waterway where Mark Menendez lost his cowl in heavy water. The next morning he came out with a Tupperware storage tub for a cowl. He'd written a big HP number on the back. It was quite the hoot.

On the 882 there are two pumps. One says fill/recirc and the other says aux fill.

The fill/recirc one works in conjunction with the dial. Repending on the dials position. When you are underway you would want it on recirc to areate the water in the well. When you are fishing fill will bring in fresh water, it wont work too well whe nthe boat is at speed. Empty will drain the livewell.

the other switch just turns on a fill pump.

Did the livewell drain totally? If it did i wonsder if you have something wrong with the valve thats in the bilge area. On recirc it should be holding water.

One thing i have noticed with mine on rough days is i loose a bunch of water out of the overflows form the water sloshing around. I plug them up when its rough so i dont loose any.

Yes it was very rough out there and I thinks that is what happend> Now what do I plug it up with ???There is no drain plug, should I just shove like a plastic bag in the overflow drains????

Mike, the holes are big enough for a standard boat plug like what i have in the pict below. I think they are like 1" plugs. there are two back there, one on each side in the rear of the well up high.

here is what i use to plug the overflows.

The ones i have are stainless steel, i got them at a local marina. Just dont forget to remove the plugs when you stop and turn the fill pump back on. If you dont it will flood the back deck.

I would also try putting the lever on recirc and fill the wells up with a hose and make sure the three way valve is holding water just to be sure that isnt a problem.

I don't think that it is possible to lose all the water through the overflow holes at speed on rough water. Empty will keep water out and let water drain out at speed. Recirculate will also let water out at speed and unless I am mistaken while stationary will let water into the livewell at the same level as the waterline. The reason it empties out at speed is because the waterline is below the level of the livewell. Fill will keep it all in.

The switch on the console will fill up to the overflow and keep running on manual. Automatic will do the same thing as manual, but only operate IAW its timing pattern.

I believe that you want to manually fill the tank at first fish while throttle switch is set at Fill. Then once full, set the console switch to automatic or off. Leave the throttle switch at Fill.

But then again, I have an NX750 and not an 882.

I would never plug the overflows... leave a fill pump on and forget it and you'll know what I mean... the overflow is meant to work with the fill pump (on a timer) so that it fills and fresh water replaces the existing water.

The Recirc is there when you don't want fresh water coming in and need to keep the internal water moving about.

So... just go to the Flow-Rite website and find the system (or systems) you have in place and it will tell you what settings to use and when.

Recirc will not let the water out at speed, if its working properly that is. recirc like sim said it to recirculate the water that in the well, not let any fresh water in or any water out.

The reason i plug mine when in rough water is due to water loss out of the overflows. Fish beating around in a half empty well wen your running 4' waves is brutal on the fish and will kill them. I plug the wells before i take off and yank them when i stop and i only do that in rough water( seems like all the time on places like winni and champlain).I actually rigged up floats to make pulling them easier. Plugged up i loose no water at all its much better for the fish that way.

I have had times where i have left them unplugged in the rough stuff and lost over half the water, my old boat was the same way. I dont know if the guradian wells in the 9 series are different.

Mike....didn't I tell you that you would find a wealth of information on here. This site is the best when it comes to Nitro/Tracker boats!!!

i have an 882 and know exactly what the problem is as it has happened to me. when positioned ln the boat looking at the back deck the right side of the livewell has a single hole in it. THis hole needs a plug in it to hold the water in. yes i know the water will stay in without the plug, but when you return to plain speed all the water will drain out. your tracker dealer has a plug that will perfectly fit this hole it looks like a sink stopper. or you can use the one pictured above. to operate your livewells, insert drain plug turn system on manual till livewwell is at desired depth then switch to auto. system will run on a 3 to 1 timer this means off for 3 on for 1. on a hot day you may want to keep the livewell system on manual so you will be getting more oxygen in your livewell, remember the cooler the water the more oxygen you have. good luck and tight lines

cdalgo, my 882 totally does not work that way. The drain hole in the bottom of mine is connected to a three way valve that controls that drain, if its on empty it will drain out, recirc will pump back into the well and fill will route in fresh water. I have never had my wells drain out while in the recirc position. As far as i know all 882's are setup the same way as mine. If its draning out when on plane in the recirc or fill position, something is wrong with the valve.

Like i posted above, the only time i loose water is when im in really rough water and its out of the two overfloes that are up high in the rear corner of each well, hence the plugs.

Sim posted a great link for flowrite's site. Here is a link to the EXACT system that came in my 882, and it works excatly shown on this page.
