That's the attitude...whatever you do though, make sure you're not down-wind of TOX!!!

thanks for the heads up, maybe that ain't a good idea! doing a lot of reading on the board tonight, you keep your head up to, things happen for a reason that we don't need to understand sometimes. just a thought!

HEY, Hey, Hey, I just logged on. WTH is goin on around here!?! Man I go do the BPS thing and all kinda **** hits the fan!! Let me respond to this thread....I got skunked today at ANNA!! I'm not happy about it. That's a first. At least you had good weather Kenny. It was 16 degrees when I left this morning. Sun helped but man was it cold. Out came the full face gear and the snowmobile suit!! I don't like being cold!! Fished the whole dang lake... 9,000 acres of it. Ran all over the place. Muddy river water to clear down at the dikes. Got nibbled but that was it.

hey tox, is that supposed to make me feel better? any ice on the lake? you booked up this weekend? still feel good about the place, found some good stuff just couldn't get 'em to bite nothing. and got the 901 wet. runs like a scalded cat

I'm outta town for a couple of weeks. I will only be online a limited amount. Tonight and tomorrow night. I might be able to get online and will try. Nope, no ice. went up to the park and the water was like creamed coffee. Starting to warm up all over though. It won't be long and I wanna be out there when they put the feed bag on!! Booked a lot of trips through BPS in Baltimore this last weekend.

We fished Anna on 3/8 and did OK. We caught 10 nice crappie in the 1-1.5lb range. I started catching a few small bass on the crappie jigs. I moved up to a white 3" mister twister grub on 8lb test line and started catching bigger bass. I caught 8 largemouths, the biggest one was 22" and I didn't weigh it, just took a picture and threw it back. Most of the bass were still deep over structure in about 15-18ft of water, although the 22" was shallow in the back of a cove. We were on the warm side, that might have made a difference. The water temp was 49 most of the day on the upper end. We've noticed that when fishing gets tough, we start using smaller stuff and we usually catch pretty nice fish. Later in the day as the wind picked up the bite got especially tough. We caught almost everything early.

Uh Bill,

The hot side does not count!! That is not lake Anna, that is some bath tub warm water discharged from the nuclear power plant. You might as well be fishing in Florida lol. Some guys at the BPS show who stopped by the booth told me they were fishing 60 degree water temps on the hot side the day before. C'mon over to the cold side (high 30's water temp) and give those bass a try. right now until conditions get better, Anna (cold side) is a tough nut to crack. Good luck in your quest Kenny, I think it's gonna be a couple more weeks at least until we get some positive movement. And BIll....the hot side is private. Landowners and guests only.

Hooo Boy! Weather this past Sunday was in the low 70's and sure took advantage of the break. Fished the hot side in the canal at Dike One and kept hitting 2-3 pounders just before and after the bridge overpass on Carrs Bridge Road. All hitting on small spinnerbaits. Too may crappie fisherpeople under the Elk Creek Bridge so just stayed near the canal. Sure am glad to see the lake back up to normal. Hot side sometimes has its advantages, particularly when you have too many pleasure boaters and jet skiiers on the cold side. Still would prefer to fish the cold side but nice to have access to both sides when I want it.

TOXIC - How'd you know my first name was Mr.? I generally don't get that kind of respect, even from my kids. Your handle reminds me of fishin' the hot side when those fish glow at night and they see you better with the three or four eyes they have over there.

Let's see if we can link up this Spring / Summer and do some story swappin' (some call them fibs) and get out on the lake. I'll show you all the good spots on the hot side and you can show me some of your favorite on the cold side that I don't already know about.

Used to live in Warrenton for about 20+ years but moved to Leesburg a few years ago. Just got to get some of my chores done around the house so the missus will give me a kitchen pass to go drown them worms.

Cheers

Hey Don,

Lake Anna is approximately 30 miles west of Fredricksburg (not Frederick MD). Easiest way is either take the Thornburg exit off of I95S or the back way from Culpeper down 522.

I'll be checking those Maryland registrations this year on the lake.

hey bill,

i live in leesburg to, well have to hook up and fish sometime. I going to anna on the 29th, and theres always the potomac.

Hey Tox and Mike - Got the rest of the year until ice is in again (hope no more this year). Tox congrats on the Virginia Team. No wonder you are driving that big 929. Just bought a new 896 last year this time and and have really enjoyed it. Stayed with the carbureted since they have been around forever. Seems like I wait a long time to go with the new fangled toys. Let somebody else get the bugs out before I spend the big bucks (like I have them - ha).

What's your take on them shutting down the public access boat landing on 522. Based on what I read it seems like a bunch of folks ruined it for the others. Real shame. Launch fees aren't too bad at the marinas though and when I used to pass the public launch site it was a real zoo, particularly on Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures coming up on hot side to the mid-50's. Won't be long before the spawn and things will be getting wild after a lousy season last year with the water levels.

Will be going down to the lake house on Thursday night and sneakin' out (ooops - hope the wife doesn't read this) on Saturday morning (after chores on Friday) to see what's going on. Weather conditions in the low 60's so won't freeze my butt off. Been takin' big pots of coffee with me to keep the chill off. Depends on how the wind is blowing whether I'll fish the hot or cold side.

Have a great one and see you all soon.

Bill
