Just wondering who has been down the road as far as keel protection for their Nitros. I know Nitro offers the Tech 5 as a $300 option but I thought it sounded pretty overpriced. Looking around I see Hamby's Light,Keelguard, and Keelshield as the do it yourself options. I imagine the dealer would throw one on for a fee also. Would appreciate any input Thanks

Do a search. This has been discussed. As for me

I don't ever plan on beaching my boat but as I understand it there are some northern boys who say they don't have docks on their lakes.......imagine that!!

TOXIC

The local lakes here are 5' deep and some even futher north are 4-5' deep for 10 to 20' then drop off to 30'.

I need to get back south.

I have the keel protector on my 2002 Nitro 896 and wouldn't be without it. While I do not beach my boat often I like having that added protection. I have it on my pleasure boat and the jet ski.

I tried the Keelshield brand of do it yourself and I will admit that the dealer does a much better job. I also don't think that $300 is a drop in the bucket compared to a $30,000+ boat. Sometimes penny-wise and pound foolish.

Just a comment.

I did a do it yourself keel guard bought out of BPS,did all the prep as directed and it started to peel off the second year, had the dealer install one on the new boat and it looks better and seems to be thicker, worth the piece of mind for the money,Good luck with the new 750.
