I have recently gotten a PT 185. It currently has a 50 hp merc, which I hope to change to a 90. Question I have is, is a jackplate worth putting on this boat? I am realistic about the potential of this boat, and know it will never be a speed demon, but I'd like to get all possible performance I can out of it. I'd be grateful for any help. Great sight!

In this months Bass and Walleye Boats Mag. there is a realy good write-up on jack plates.

With how much you will spend on the plate and the upgrade to a 90 hp, it would be better, in my opinion, to save the cash and trade in towards and 18' glass hull with a 150.

You won't gain a thing...it already has the stepped transom which basically achieves the same thing..cleaner water. Now if ya' had a 115 hangin' off the back..maybe a 4" jack?
