When they rate the # of line, how do they determine the weight? It seems to me that 10# mono is a heck of a lot weaker than 10# superbraid????

Mono is based (very loosly) on the IGFA standard of break strength. Braid is usually determined by the diameter equivalent of mono. Soooo, 10 pound braid is ually close to 30 pound break strength.

I don't know how reliable some of those tests are either:(I've seen some 4 lb. test of one line be as strong as some 6 or even 8 lb. test of another. A lot depends on how much stretch is built into the line(varies dramaticaly) and tensile strength. I've seen some lines(not mentioning names)that stretch a lot but, have pretty good breaking points.

I've also used some that didn't have much stretch but, had weak break points. Of course I'm talkin' mono and not braid...haven't had much experience with it because around where I live there isn't much junk to fish.
