Installing a Charger, How deep can I drill on the transom?

I have a 98 Pro Team 175 and will be putting in a Dual Pro 2 bank battery charger. I want to put it in the aft battery compartment mounted on the right side of the transom. How thick is the wood back there? Can I drill into it without drilling through the hull? Is there a better place to put it. The space is tight and I already have 3 batteries in there.



I'm also going to replace the stock 360 GPH bilge pump with a 1000 GPH pump and swap out the 500 GPH livewell pump with a 750 GPH model. Any feedback?

Drill as deeply as you like - even all the way through - just put some silicone into the hole before you screw the charger on to be sure everything is sealed.



I see no reason to increase the capacity of the 2 pumps. Increasing the capacity on the livewell pump might even put more pressure on the fittings than they were designed for and cause leaks. That's "might".
