Tileguy, I read your post about the upgrade of your motor
on a 640LX. I just wanted to let you know that I have a
640LX with the 90HP 2 stroke and it does not ride "bow up". I think some dealer somewhere may have made this statement for a 640LX/90HP combo & it stuck. I know that the 75HP and the 90HP both weigh 305lbs. I run a 22P Laser II prop on it and get about 45MPH with two guys and gear (full tank) and about 48MPH@5500PRM by myself. I like the idea of 4 strokes but thats an extra 80lbs (for a merc)on the back of your boat, I don't know how it would ride with that extra weight. Even the new merc 90OPTIMAX is another 70lbs heaver than a 75 or 90HP 2 stroke. And I'm sure both these will set you back much farther than going to the 75 or 90 two stroke, which by the way I think are like $465 apart in price.
As for the backwash problem discussed on the 640LX and 700LX boats, if when coming off-plane you slow down and TRIM DOWN, you'll come off the plane without ever getting any backwash. I mean completely dry. I don't think I trim all the way down, but close. This has never really caused me any problems other than when I'm by myself the boat kindof leans to the right when doing this. It doesn't seem to do that with a partner. I can deal with that to keep a dry bilge and back deck. I know this techique has also worked for me on other hulls, a certain Ranger (gasp)included.
