I can't stand it. I still have 5 weeks to wait on my new boat. I need some counciling!!! There has to be some kinda of help for people like me.

I guess all I can do is talk and ask question about it.

Got an 898 bass edition w/225 EFI and 8" jackplate coming. I inquired about what prop would be on it. Dealer said probably same as 929. What is the standard prop on the 929 w/225 and will it be enough pitch for the 898. The 898 is almost 300lbs lighter and less draft. Any ideas??

Kenny,

You should look into a 12 step program to get through this or maybe a marine carpet/fiberglass patch to wear on your arm!

It'll probably come standard with a Tempest 3 Blade 25" Pitch......with the vent plugs in the prop hub...my guess is it'll perform the best with 1 or 2 plugs removed...and probably just the 1! That boat will scream!!

Find a friend who has a boat and will let you sit in his garage and make funny boat noises. Imagination works wonders for the soel

My names Mark.....and I'm a bassaholic.

Also a boataholic. You see I to wait for the moment when I can get my sweaty little hands on Mac's 901.we're waiting for open water. And that's great.I need to sale my 170TF so to make room for the 901....but it's still hurts!! I may have to modify my garage to fit it in . The last thing I want is it setting in the driveway in winter.

So now you know my story thats all I have to say!

Listen to Mac, believe in Mac he knows or call and ask the

dealer what will be on the boat!!!

I for one have not been a proponent of removing the vent plugs, It seems to get the drag pull to one side or the other even with Hydraulic Seastar (which I am guessing you ordered)I have a Trophy Plus Four blade on a 150 Opti with a 10 inch setback manual jackplate and the performance is best with all large plugs in. Same on my last boat!!

Just needed some one to talk to, and got to thinking about the prop. I am sure they tested the new 898, but it is my understanding it (the 898) was originally only rated for a 200 max hp then they up the rating to a 225.

oh yea, can you get those fiberglass/carpet arm patches over the counter or are they prescription. Thanks for helping relieve some of the stress. KENNY

5 whole weeks. that will seem like FOREVER waiting on a new boat to me. the 898 should be a great boat in nitro's line up. did you decide to go with or without the carpet? also, i don't think there is a cure for this particular infection you have Kenny. You are just going to have to suffer! :) i think the 898 looks like a smart boat to buy and it sounds like you are getting it set up right.

i was so excited the night i bought my new "used" boat that i could not sleep at night. had to work the next day and it rained that afternoon and evening. caught a 1 hour break in the clouds and in the lake she went for her maiden voyage. went all over the lake and it got dark and we had a lot of trouble finding the boat ramp.

Mark...you're killin' me...LOL...I deffinetely DON'T know everything!!.BUT, I do know, that the vent plugs don't have anything to do with "drag" or pulling to one side. They are designed to do one thing,..and they work great!!

What do they do?:...They allow exhaust gasses to escape faster, out the sides of the hub, and thru it vs. JUST thru the hub. This allows the prop to spin faster during your hole shot from the increased air surrounding the prop (exhaust bubbles)...the inreased RPM's will give you a better holeshot, getting a heavy bass boat or ski boat w/skier up on plane faster. After the boat is on plane, the exhaust will then go out the rear of the prop hub and the vent holes are no longer used. The plugs are available in 3 different styles,....large holes..smaller holes and solid.

Most of the larger props that are used on 200-225's come with the larger holed plugs. they can be removed with a screw driver and pushed back in with your thumb (they're slightly recessed into the hub so you need a tool to remove them). By experimenting with the plugs by adding or removing them you can make a world of difference in your boats performance. On my 901 I have 1 vent plug removed.

I tried it with all 3 plugs in, and I had a horrible hole shot,....the boat was a pig with a full load and it was working hard to get up and on plane. I removed one plug and noticed a HUGE difference immediately....i had a much, much better holeshot. I figured...if one plug out made that much difference,...what would 2 out do?? It caused waayy too much cavitation (too much prop slip...too much exhaust escaping) and my hole shot suffered again...so I put one plug back in, and it's fine.....it's amazing what a difference that venting can do.....Kenny's going to have to experiment too,..but my best guess is he'll get the best overall performance with 1 plug out...just a guess though!

Have fun man!! Spring's comin'!!!
