Since moving to TX, my Triton hasn't been running the same. She slowed down a few MPH, and the tach is showing about a 150rpm decrease in the summer heat. Hole shot... well... sucked. I used to love my PowerTech TRO-4 when in VA, but the move to TX required me to do some experimenting.

I finally found a Trophy 25 pitch and bought it. Waiting on it to arrive now. Someone recommended a 24 pitch Bravo 1 with dual PVS holes. Interesting... but I didn't want to spend that much money on a prop + the rework for the dual PVS holes. I was also considering sending out my TRO-4 for PVS hole install, plus a little tune-up to make it run like it did in VA. I was about to mail it out this week...

Well, Merc released the Fury prop recently. I had to try it after what I heard people saying. So I borrowed a 25 pitch. Not quite what I was looking for. Decent holeshot, but rpms and speed were comparable to my TRO-4. After thinking about it for a while, I took the chance and bought a 24 pitch Fury. Tested it this morning. Wow.

With two people, 1/2 tank, full gear, + 1 livewell full of water - I got my speed back, and the holeshot is great. Ran it right up to 5750 at 71mph. Great prop. I'm going to leave this one on my boat for now. It's pretty dang awesome. I would have run with two livewells full, but I broke a fitting off of one of them sometime this morning... so I can't fill up the port side LW until I fix it. (This week).

For those of you with comparable rigs, you might want to look into the new Merc Fury prop. I'm sold.

All the best,

Glen

I have a Fury 25 that I got as a prize in a tournament last year (was actually a cert for a free prop).

I ran it this year and loved it except for one thing. Like most 3 blade props it loses grip in rough water and higher trim settings. St Clair is rough 90% of the time and losing bite while running in 3-5 footers is not a good thing. Unless you like to take on 100-500 gallons at a time...lol

Had great hole shot, gained about 100rpms (5750) and about 4mph (73 gps). But once I lost grip in the rough stuff I changed back to the 4 blade Trophy Plus 25" and havent looked back. I may sell the 25 later...or keep it for a spare.

Glenn,

What boat do you have? I been thinking about trying a Fury on my 21X/225 Opti but don't know about 25 or 26 pitch. Now you add in 24! I currently run a 26 Tempest+. I have a 25 Tempest I may try to sell to get some funds together for a Fury.

NoCAL,

I've been told that if you would run a Tempest on your boat, drop down one size for the Fury. I'd start with the 25 if I were you. I think that guy Mini might have one for sale. :p

Most 2005 TR-20X's with 225 Optimax's (normal, not the XS motor), were running 26 pitch Trophy's. I load a bit heavier than a lot of them, so I tried a 25 Trophy. It worked well, but I needed a bit extra - like a 25 1/2". My PowerTech 25 pitch was perfect for that, as the PowerTech's seem to run about a 1/2" pitch more than a comparable Trophy.

The same year 21X is a bit faster boat than my 20X from everything I've experienced... which is kind of weird to me - foot longer, same motor... faster. Hmmm... Odd. I would have though it was reverse, but the 21X always seems to pull slowly away from me.

I had a nice Texan loan me his 25 Fury. I could turn it just fine - but I was turning it to 5600 rpm, and that is all she had. Good speed, and decent holeshot, but I wanted to bump it up 150 rpm and get an even better holeshot. The 24 pitch did that for me.

Unless you run your boat with a tackle store's worth of lures like I do, you probably will have that extra 150 rpm with the 25 pitch. I think the 26 will be too much for your rig.

All the best,

Glenn

i went from a 26 tempest to a 25 fury, got a better hole shot, similar top end

numbers. i can spin it to 6400 rpm (verado top end)... had to raise the motor about

1/4 inch.

I not sure i understand why the suggestion is to drop a pitch if you go from a tempest to a fury. I tried a 25 fury today and i dont know if i got a bad one or what but im not impressed with it. I run a 24 tempest plus on my Z7/175Xs and i can spin it right to 6k ~67mph. I also have a 25 tempest that i can turn 5700 at the same speed. The 25 fury i can run right to 6k with the same speed at my 24 tempest, the holeshot is about the same. I have tried all three pitches of the fury and i can way overspin the 24, the 25 i can turn 6k and the 26 i can run it 5700 or so at about the same speed as i normally run.
