I recently purchased a Tracker Pro Team 175 w/ a 25 hp engine NO power trim. My question is about buying a Stingray type hydrofoil stabilizer. Any recomendations as to the full size or the junior version would be helpful. Do they really work as advertised? Are the extra torque flaps needed then also? Any help.

Hey Pete-

Welcome Aboard...

My last boat was a 14' aluminum Lowe with a 25hp Johnson. When I bought the boat the hydrofoil was already installed. It was the full-size model. It worked like a charm! The boat would instantly come up on plane...

However, there can be issues with installing these units on new motors...run a search on this site for hydrofoils or stabilizers and you will find many messages dealing with them. If you are having trouble getting on plane I would encourage you to install one---they do what they say they will do...

Pete -

You will still need the trim tab - it serves a totally different function and the hydrofoil should not be in the water once you get under way.

I would have no fear of installing one because of a warranty issue. It's like installing an aftermarket radio in a new car..... Just 'cuz you instal a radio, you don't void the warranty on your transmission - only on the parts directly involved with the radio.
