Now that my boat season is over I have decided to load up this off season on a couple of hummingbirds. I have a flasher in my dash but I will be putting a 597ci HD DI in that area and a 596c HD DI on the bow. I believe there is a hummingbird specialist here on the site however, this question is open to anyone. My question is for the 597 that I will be putting near the console. I have heard some have had a problem on tranducers and where to put them i,e "In Hull" and "Stern mount". In everyone's personal opinion, which do you prefer? Thanks in advance to any inputs..

I'm definitely not an expert, but Humminbird Greg helped me out and I mounted my transducer for the 597 ci HD DI in the aft hull for the console mount and it does well. I cannot read temps accurately from there and in rough water and at high speeds sometimes the depth is off and it's too fast for imagining. I will say though that at lower speeds imaging and depth is great. I've actually measured shallow water depth to check the device and it was spot on. Mostly though I've used it at the console for the gps and love that feature. I'm sure Greg will respond soon though for the expert input.

Max,

You will usually get better high-speed water depth readings on a glass boat from an inside-the-hull installation. However, since the transducer for the 597c HD DI unit is built into the bottom of the transducer; it will not read accurate water temperature nor respond quickly to temperature changes. You need to decide which is more important to you: high-speed depth readings (inside-the-hull mount) or accurate water temperature (transom mount). If later you decide you want the other; you could always purchase a second DI transducer and a TS3 Transducer Switch and change back and forth.

Greg,

I am not big into 70 mph readings when I am searching. I like to take it slow. 30-40 mph zig-zags and when I see a good area, I like to putt around. I def like like to see temp readings, esp in spring. Thanks for the info.
