How thick is your ice?

Just wondered how thick the ice gets everywhere.

I grew up in Amsterdam NY and know that everything gets frozen enough to drive (race) on. I miss the winter.

i got 10+ inches on the local lake i fish right now.but i expect it to get thicker since it was 0 last night!!

2 foot thick and still expanding (Black Lake). It's so much fun living here in upstate NY.

Are you telling me that there are parts of the world that actually have ice other than in a freezer or glass of tea?

Why would anyone want to live in such a place?

Those ice fishing guys are nuts if you ask me. I have a friend that lives in Minnesota. I told him one time that some summer I wanted to come up and fish for Muskies. I have always wanted to catch a 35 lb fish with teeth and attitude like an alligator. Anyway he says,"no no don't come in the summer, the black flies and mosquitos will eat you up. Come in the winter and ice fish." Long story short, he's got not a hut but what sounds more like a heated cabin with bunk beds, a generator to power a TV and VCR on a spot that he leases every year. What he does is go out there and bury a quart of Grey Goose vodka in the ice, get smashed and watch porn on the TV. I'm not sure he even fishes. I said pass...I don't have to drive a 1000 miles to do that.

I'd still like to catch one of those toothy critters some day.
