Ok, how many of you guys have older boats, like 1988-1993 range? I was curious about the general opinion, on when a boat tends to have things start to "go", IE: structural, and mechanical. My boat is a 91, but it seems over all, to be in pretty decent shape, except for some stress cracks in the cap. I'm curious as to how long a fiberglass boat stays structurally sound for? I take good care of my boat, mechanically, and cosmetically, and it sits under a carport, or a cover at all times.I was just wondering if there's anything I should start to look for, before a small problem becomes a bigger one. So guys let's hear your opinions. Thanks

old is when...

You make the statement "In my day...." and you actually have a date in mind that the audience will not know.

oh, you were talking about boats....I think "old" is that point when you are no longer comfortable taking it out on lake X and have to limit your runs, or when the spare parts you take with you would outfit a new boat as well.

...

I believe boats are like pickup trucks vs automobiles. An old pickup truck is when it don't run anymore. If you fix it and it runs.... it ain't old.

Old... is a term used to describe boats when you think you can sell the idea that you need a new one. Its kinda like getting a kitchen pass. You phrase the event in terms that will sell at the kitchen sink. Old is a term that has a different meaning to your better half than it does to you. Its a bell ringer that kanotes somekind of action. You can see evidence of that in the bathroom cabinet. Bottles of "de-old" in various forms.

Other than that... I agree. If you believe that it'll get you home again, it ain't old.

I have an 88. I keep it covered with a waterproof cover. My seats are in great shape, carpet is good, transom solid, Deck wood is solid. Motor is an 84, it runs good. I wouldn't mind a new one but I can't justify the cost because this one is just not wore out yet. Boats will last a long time if you take care of them.

The oldest Tracker I ever saw was, I think, an "88". I had a logo of a bass in the crosshairs of a scope. I was being loaded out by two guys on one of the coldest days of the year going out to spend the NIGHT on the lake. (See my message from January "The toughest fishermen I ever met"). It was running great and they had no qualms about going out on a 20 degree night.

I'm still running a '93 boat with a '93 motor on the back. It's still looks great and runs like a horse. It'll be old when my woman allows me to get a new one..................sa
