Saturday while fishing the Delta with Tom Lutz. We were running down a channel and came across a convoy of cruisers. 10 to 12 of them comming up the channel. The channel we were on was maybe 100 yards wide so there isn't much room to run and hide in.

We were in my 170dc and I think we did Ok getting over the wakes. Some of them maybe 6 foot high. Hard to judge how tall they are because untill you get to them they don't look like much but boy they really throw you around.

Just wondering how you all approach a Huge wake from a cruiser. Whats the best angle to take. Straight on or 45deg to them.

Don't take them straight on,...there's a gauranteed "Spear" in your future if you do!! Take them at a 45 and feather your throttle as your going up and over.....I accelerate as I'm going down the backside,...and throttle back as you crest over the top.....it takes a little practice but before long you can cruise right through them!

I gotta tell ya, John..... Not even the barges on the Mississippi put out the kind of wakes thast those boys in their Carvers put out.....

45 Degrees was always my approach angle and slow wa-a-a-ay the heck down. That is, of course, unless Tom forgot to shower that morning! As ugly as he is - no need to smell, too!

:^)

me!

Dito on what Mac said. Be careful slowing down too much. If you're zippin along at 45 and slow down and try to stop just before the wave, you can bet, that bad boy is coming right over the bow. Not that I've done it, I've heard! LOL

Take them at a 180 degree angle...in other words, turn and run. :)

Seriously, I like to take big wakes at about a 30 degree angle. The reason I don't go for a steeper angle is that if you get too much beam to the wake and don't get the speed just right, you get rocked really bad.

Yeah, Rich..... Like you REALLY have to be careful of wakes in that Carver!

At the rally, I'll tell or maybe even show you guys how I took care of a guy in a cruiser that did that intentionally, in a no wake river no less. Pardon the phrase, but it does take a good boat and a "brass set" to pull off. Needless to say this guy will forever wet his pants, when he sees a bass boat roaring up behind him! My friend Jamey can tell the story better probably.

On second thought, John..... Maybe you'd better not spear a wave with Tom on board..... It might make your trip more pleasant - but you could also end up with one heck of a huge fish kill.....

Man Scott. you is in rare form. What did poor Tom do to deserve this treatment.

Oh Wait a minute. He does own A BASS CAT. I guess that is reason enough...LOL

Just kidding Tom. Anytime you need someone to out fish. I am Available..;o)

You know, John..... If you and Tom will have me - some day I'd like to make it out there to fish with you guys! Bass Cat or Nitro - I don't care and neither do the fish!

me!

Anytime you feel like making the trip over to the left coast. There's always room for you in my boat.

Stacey & Susan would love to see you again too.

Let me know a month or so in advance and I will take a week off work and we can hit the Delta and a couple of the other lakes that are near me.
