While were on the topics of equipment does anyone use a hot foot ? do I need to sneak out and buy one while my wife is asleep! or can I live without it . Because after reading about how many rod / reels you guys have I'm ashamed. I need aleast a have dozen more.

Mark,

The advantages are many, two hands on the wheel being the most prevalent. I think the hot foot goes hand in hand with steering trim handle though. So you'd have to get both. Is it essential ? no, but it's nice to have. I will have it on my future boats. When you think about it we don't really have to have anything.....

Depending on the size of your boat you might want to spend you hard earned moeny on more rods!!

I love 'em. Much better control of the boat, especially in rough water.

I'm looking forward to the day when someone perfects an either/or solution, so you can use whichever control is most convenient at the time. Kind of like having a hot foot with cruise control capability.

Rich, Land&Sea makes a foot throttle that allows you to use the hand throttle also. I've tried a Hot foot, but don't really like it. Most boats don't have enough room for my long legs. I would have to cut a hole in the console of Ol'Spinecrusher to make one fit...Cmack

I love my hot foot and trim on the wheel. It really shines in rough water. You can control the throttle quickly, while being able to trim with the touch of a finger, all while both hands are on the wheel manuvering. Long idle zones and no wake areas can be a pain in the foot sometimes, but you'll get used to it rather quickly. Personally, I think the hot foot and streering wheel trim lever should be standard on most boats, along with a beaching bumper and on board charger. My next boat will absolutley have to have those items.

Charlie, I've read about the Land and Sea combo unit, and nobody who has one seems to think it works well.

I think it's going to take an electronic or hydraulic setup to do it right.

I have the Land & Sea Hotfoot installed in my 901. I really like it. It is the only one I've ever used though. When fishing rough water it allows instant on/off acceleration when navigating the waves. When I'm cruising on calmer water, I use the normal hand throttle only. It was a bit pricey, but now that the pain is gone, I think it was worth it. I also have the dual turn signal type switches for triming the outboard and the jackplate.

Watch soon...there will be drive by wire outboards in our near future! Throttle and shift will become electronic. Steering to soon follow!
