This is the second Nitro i have bought with the horn not working. Its getting juice to the Horn, in fact when i hit the horn toggle switch all i hear is a gulping sound all of the light dim on the boat. Could it be a short? Anyone else experienced this problem before and fixed it?

these horns are imfamous on this. there is a screw on the horn that you can loosen or tighten abit and it will probably work. I've bought new ones from the store which did this also. The screw adjusts the tension on a diaphram or something which vibrates to make the noise.

hope this helps,

Mine almost never work either.....

Anyone ever try replacing the horn with an automotive type?

TOO LOUD! lol...J/K.

I usually keep a spare "air" powered horn in the boat. You know the ones people take to football games that are REAL annoying? Anyway, most of the horns that you find on boats from the factory are not adequate for emergency use. They are only to comply with USCG recommendations. Also invest in a small whistle to attach to your life jacket in the event you are thrown over baord and need rescue. The extra buck you spend could save your life.

Your right Mini....I love that lil' bugger! I have a blast(literally) when the ramp gets all jumbled up and I whip out that lil' annoying SOB and give em' all a jolt! Hilarious...

My horn is intermittant, so I bought a USCG approved whistle from Wal-mart.

Same here. The whistle will always work!

Replaced mine with a car horn ($12 at NAPA). Horns look virutally identical. Simple operation, and have not had problems since.

I carry around one of those compressed air horns. Nothing beats a good "WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" at 2500 decibels ('specially at 5:30 a.m. on a really foggy morning! Heh-heh!)

A lot of times, simply reversing the polarity through the horn (switching the leads) will correct this. I'd try before replacing. Also try the horn while the motor is running to make sure the horn is bad instead of a corrosion created amp limitation.
