Rumor was that at Khe Sanh... During the "Siege", the Marines were reluctant to unload the cargo from the transport planes because of the enemy shelling... So, they "fixed" the system by loading the mail and the beer on the airplane first... So that all the ammo and other stuff would have to be unloaded first before the Marines could get to the beer and mail... Story is that everything got unloaded very fast... Don't know if it's true but it certainly is believeable...given my intimate knowledge of just exactly what motivates a Marine....
