Finally got the nerve to go to High Rock Lake yesterday afternoon with the family. Wasn't really set on doing much fishing, just some prospecting. I was quite impressed with the ramp (Southmont Ramp) and the adequate parking there. It is a busy ramp, but with 5 ramps stacked together, it goes pretty smoothly. The best part about the ramp is the adequate parking. As for the lake, it is BIG, but not very deep. The deepest that I registered on my graph was about 35'. Lots of guys fishing, so right out in the middle of the lake. I have got to figure out how to do that deep water fishing.

Didn't catch any fish, but I did get a good face sunburn riding around checking things out on the lake. And did I mention, burned a 1/2 tank of gas!

If anyone has any experiences or tips on High Rock Lake, I am all ears.

BASS magazine rated High Rock as one of their most important fisheries in their last issue. I know there are fish in it, but I haven't found them yet.

Bryan,

Heading to Texas this Thursday, and won't be back until the 14th. Sometime after that, would love to get out on the Rock with you as we talked about. I'll do some research and post to another board (subscription) that I frequent. I'll see what I can find out.

Bryan,

Here is the first thing I've gotten. More to come later.

Shallow flats near main channel points. Work em sloowwww, fish are moving up and down the flats. After a while you can judge when they move. Sun gets high they tead to move up and down less. Hit shady pockets. good luck!!!!!!

Not very good, but I should be able to get some better clues.

Bryan,

Here is some better info. Hope you can benefit from this while I'm off to Texas (later this week). Won't be back until mid-month.

Try some piers in the mid lake area, like Abbotts and Second Creeks. Jigs are always a good bet along with spinner baits. If you dont get bit pretty quick shallow, get out. The water is getting hot and the fish are leaving the banks. Their are plenty of smaller keepers off shore right now and the big ones will be there soon. Look for points, high spots, and channel drops in 8 to 12 feet of water, try crankbaits or carolina rigs.

Bryan,

Sounds like a good plan to me. Sitting, relaxin' and sipping on adult beverages. I'll be doing the family thing (second time in 6 months!) again. However, we're assisting my wife's mother in getting ready to move from her house to my brother-in-laws house in Dallas. She's 84, and an invalid now, requiring full time care. Will be a better situation with her.

Now about your comments . . .

I need a guide like you to show me the ropes.

Not sure at all that I qualify on that count. However, seems that I've always had some luck putting others on fish. As long as somebody is catching something, I'm happy. But I do like getting my line stretched! We'll hook up in the future. Heard the same about High Rock.
