Filled the boat up with fuel and winterizing amount of merc product. Went out for an hour or so, refilled the tank, went home, took out the batteries to store for the winter and put the boat back in storage to work on winterizing later this week. Hit the switch to lower the motor to make sure all the water was drained and nothing. Stupid feeling when I realized the batteries were at home. Oh well, at least it was a beautiful day to be on the river.

Winterizing... It's that time of year again.

Are you going to store your boat wih the motor on the transom saver? I thought I read somewhere the motor should be keep down, as far as possible. ?

No, the motor is always straight down for storage. I just need to put the battery back in to do that.

Without reinstalling your battery, you can take a screwdriver and slightly back out the screw at the base of your trim pump to bypass the ram and allow the outboard to drop by gravity. Much like a bottle jack. ;)

My luck, it would drop all right, and tear the transom off :)

Uhh... no. This is the way dealers/boat lots commonly lower outboards to prevent freezing without having to uncover boats on the lot, charge or install batteries, etc. A simple standard screwdriver and slowly unscrewing the screw on the pump ram will start the outboard lowering. To stop it in place, just tighten back up. You can also raise the outboard this way by loosening the screw a bit and lifting the outboard up while someone tightens the screw when up in position desired. It's a handy procedure to get comfortable with for the eventuality of a pump or solenoids going out while on the road or lake. It'll let you get your boat on the trailer and back on the road to repair safely. ;)

I would have never thought you could do that with the weight of a 150. Cool to know , Thanks

You'll be surprised how well balanced your 150 is actually, on the pivot tube it's really not heavy and it's also a good way to feel that your pivot tube or any pivot point isn't starting to show ealy signs of seizing or wear.
