Got this on the Bassdozer newsletter today. Sounds like an easy enough safety tip.

LEAVE A PAPER TRAIL IN WINTER
Winter fishing requires you take more precautions. In
addition to any other precautions you may take, one practice
that provides peace of mind is to leave a "paper trail" as
to where you are going to fish. Keep a small yellow sticky
note pad in the glove compartment, and stick one sheet
inside the windshield whenever you launch the boat. Write
where you will be, what time you left and when you plan to
return. Something as simple as "In back of Cold Creek Bay,
11 AM back at 5PM," will do it. Even if you plan to stay
near by, post a note on the windshield. It can be just as
cold if you are unable to make it a short haul back, and a
search party could easily overlook you if they have no clue
where to begin.
