Greg -

I ran into an old post of yours on BFHP giving your fishing report on Long Lake (Washburn County, WI). I am leaving tonight to fish there for 4 days with my father-in-law and some other members of the family. Do you fish there often? Any suggestions as to where to fish, what to expect, recommendations for this time of year? Fishing for bass, walleye, pike, and anything else that bites...

Our family used to go way north to Whitefish Chain in MN but the drive is ridiculous (11+ hours), so I'm trying to relocate the group to Northern Wisconsin and cut our commute in half.

Anyone else know Long Lake and have any suggestions?

Appreciate your help!

David,

For reports on WI lakes, I go to Lake-Link which seems to have decent info most of the time. Link for Long is attached. Check out the link to the lake near the top.

Also the WI has a map site. It's mostly old manually generated maps and they are chopped up funny to fit on a page. Link to Long is:

http://dnr.wi.gov/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/2106800a.htm

And then there is always FHS maps available at bait shops everywhere:

3300 acres, decent size to explore. Good luck.

Rich.

Dave,

I just saw your post this evening. I haven't been there this year... But, your best bet is to get current info from the resort/hotel owner where you are headed and/or the local bait shops.

Now, in general, walleye could be good. Depends on temperature and how well th forge base held up over the summer. The walleyes could be ready to really start to chow down... If that is the caswe I would be working outside weed edges, deep weeds if possible with large minnows and leeches under slip bobbers. Also, same thing over many lake points. I like slip bobbers at this time of te year because it lets me put the bait right in their face regardless of what the depth is that they are favoring...
