The cord that you pull to unlock the hinges and lift the motor out of the water broke deep inside the mount..... How do I get in there to replace it?

More later on my first day with the new boat and events today - if these scattered thunderstorms ever stop!

Scott. take a pair of needle nose pliers and unlatch the mount & you can get at the rope from the half down position. I usually raise mine about halfway up and rest the foot of the motor on the end of the mount. Go to your local hardware store and get some vinyl covered cable and use that as a replacement and you are through messing with it. I broke mine 5 or 6 times in the 1st couple of years I had Ol'spinecrusher and since replacing the rope w/ the cable have not had any problems in 3 years. Oh and by the way, congrats on the new boat. Have ya smacked anything with it yet?.....Cmack/Smack

Not yet, Charlie! Not yet, but I'm workin' on it! At near-the-ramp speeds it turns a lot more slowly than my old 180!

My two biggest questions are how do you get the rope to where it goes inside the enclosed area and what does the far end tie on to?

me!

OK Scott,if you'll look on the bottom of the mount you will see a hole and up in that hole there's a plastic piece that the rope goes through. You feed the rope through the end of the mount and wok it down to the hole and grab it with your needlenose pliers. Then run it through the above mentioned plastic piece and tie a knot in the end and there you have it. Please use the vinyl coated cable Scott. Trust me on this. If I were there I could have changed it out quicker than I typed this. Heck I've done it out on the lake, although I did drop a good pair of pliers in the lake. Oh well casualties of war. Good luck on the project Scott, and keep an eye out for that perfect stump....Smack

Thanks, Charlie!

Vinyl coated cable it is.....

I don't want to have to do this again!

OK..... You can drop the "Smack" now!

You're a changed man.

Told you that 12 step program would help!

Good luck Scott, did mine this spring and it took over an hour. You have to half deploy the motor to get in there, which means you have to prop it up while working or have someone hold it. That was the best way I found and with needlenose like Cmack said. I will definately try the coated cord next time, because it's starting to fray again already.

Tie some 17-25lb heavy fishing line to the end of the rope or cable that you want to thread through there and use the line to pull it through,...like a snake for pulling wire through tight places. It works great!! Zell rowland showed that trick to Mini and I one weekend when he stayed at Mini's house....Zell's replaced 100's of those ropes over the years,....he can swap one out in 10-15 mins and talk on the cell phone at the same time! Zell Rules!! LOL
