My 2 boys think the best thing in the boat is the front live well! Luckily they haven't seen fit to use it for a potty (like Rob's boy)! They could care LESS about fishing, catching or reeling them in this year all they want to do is dump the entire contents of THIER tackle boxes into the live well and have a WORM party!
Funniest thing happened this sunday when we took the boat out for the first time with the wagon (worked great!). We meet up as were putting in with a nice Grandpa taking his 2 grandsons (10 and 3) fishing. He points us to a nice quiet cove not 200 yards from the ramp where he said they caught a mess of crappie last night. So we motor over and while the boys commence dumping thier stuff into the live well which is filling up with water. I get the worms and minnows out and grab a sandwich and watch the boys.
All of a sudden my 2 yearold starts screamming and pointing towards the float and is yelling "daddy fish, daddy fish" well I look over and the float is still sitting there with nary a water ring so I tell Eli "that's a float, no fish yet". He keeps pointing and YELLING "daddy fish, daddy fish" so I look back, same think this time no movement on the float. By now he's getting RED in the face, stamping up and down and ready to burst. I look back and still the float is just sitting there. So I try to explain how a float work, and unless it goes under the water there is no fish on it. He is getting madder and madder, finaly he grabs my hand and takes me to the back of the boat (where I had the 2 rods set up in the rod holders, away from the boys) and puts my hand on the OTHER rod which by now is BENT over to the water and is about out of line (it's an ultra light with 4lb test)! I completely forgot about the 2nd pole which was rigged carolina style with the worm. Sure enough Eli was right and a nice LITTLE hybrid bass was hooked. I've now learned that I do not ignore when Eli says Daddy FISH! Heres a picture of the boys with the fish, and YES daddy did a POOR job of aiming the camera, if you look closely at the bottom center you'll se the lips and eyes of this little guy. He was released unharmed to grow up bigger. We also caught a nice 3 1/2 lb catfish trolling (of all things a crankbait) and had a nice fish fry for Sunday dinner.
Oh, also I taught Noah on Sunday how to read the depth finder and now he calls himself my "navigator!" his job is to watch the depth when we are trolling to make sure it does not get below 10 feet (since we were trolling medium running crank baits), and he's ready to go again!
