I posted earlier about my 50 hp mercury motor starving at 1600 rpm. Bob B. offered suggestions and so far I have replaced the fuel line and bulb with mercury parts. I did find something odd when I replaced the fuel line. When I removed the hose from the motor connection, I noticed there was what appeared to be plastic film lodged in the connector. Could this be from the original hose lining??? Starving issue seems to be solved.

Now I want to work on another issue. Motor seems to skip some at wot. It runs at 5600 rpm if the tach is correct. Anyway, back to my main question. I purchased a fuel pump rebuild kit and inline fuel filter for my motor serial #0T742859. Is it a difficult rebuild? Does not look too difficult. Are there any websites that can show you how? Or is it straight forward.

The plastic film is more than likely the fuel line coming apart internally. Kind of clear / brown, will crumble. TYPICAL of ethanol-related damage.

As far as the skip at WOT....will it stop if you back it off ever so slightly? You might be on the rev-limiter.

Pulse pump rebuild is fairly straightforward......follow the included directions. ;)

Matter of fact it does quit skipping if I ease back a bit. I used to get 32 mph out of the boat. Now I can only get 28 or 29 if the speedo still reads correctly. Was hoping to break the 30 mark again.

Thanks for the advice and help.

All a speedo does is plug a hole in your dash and let you know that you are moving. Unless it is a high end aftermarket, 95% of them aren't within 15mph accurate. GPS is your friend when it comes to consistent readings. Tach should be accurate though.

Go up "one pitch size" on your prop...speed will increase....slightly. You're on the limiter.....;)
