So the only requirement my wife had for a new boat is it had to fit in the garage. Well it does except I have to remove the front trailer step. So I decided to fix that. I cut the upright bar off and then made up a S.S. shaft to reconnect it. I bored the I.D. of the short section to a slip fit. The other end was given a press fit and here is a hint, .0030 is way to much! I could have gotten away with .0010 without any problem. Even putting the shaft in the freezer for four hours and heating the tube with a heat gun it took a hell of a lot of pounding to get it in three inches. I ended up just doing a through hole to secure the ends but I might put some 1/4X20 thread inserts in the hole instead of a bolt and nut. Here are some pics of the finished product.
