I would bid $0.02 but I'm afraid I'd own it.

One question....why didn't you buy an HP like everybody else in the world?

The printer was actually free, with stipulations. You must order the ink from Xerox and all supplies AND print a minimum number of sheets per month and prove it. It sounded like a killer deal until you factor in the cost of the ink and supplies. We're almost out of ink and the thought of paying to have it fixed AND buying more ink... well, that's just too expensive.

For $600, we can get a Samsung CLP-550n, which is color, doesn't use WAX sticks like the Tektronix, and seems to be a pretty good little printer.

HP's color laser printers cost WAY too much to operate.

I've always said, "You don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get."

Way back when, in the days when color printing was first arriving in offices, the Tektronix Phaser line was top shelf. No more.

Mike, I've had an OKIdata C5100n for about a year now, and it's terrific. Best printer I've ever owned or had access to, and I've used a lot of them in 20 years of IT.

Rich, the first laser printer I bought was the Okidata OL-400... added some RAM to put it to 1 (or maybe two, I forget) and gave it to Goodwill a couple of years ago. GREAT printer. The problem I have is that my wife is a Mac graphic artist, so I have to have postscript functionality and mac compatibility, which most peripherals just don't care about. At $582 shipped (www.upgradesource.com), this printer has duplexing, postscript level 3, network card (including wireless if desired), 4 seperate toner cartridges (which I think all lasers have anyway), and what seemed to be the lowest cost per page.

At $600, it's disposable. Heck, the toner in the thing is worth about $400 by itself.

And yes, Tektronix printers are quite excellent quality printers. If memory serves, they broke the $1 cost per page boundary many years ago (as in UNDER $1). But now, they're just a thermal wax printer in a world of color laser printers. They're wonderful when they work, but their cost per page is very high.

Mike, you'd have to go to the Oki 5300n for your needs, and that's more coin. Sounds like Samsung is your best best.
