Are any of you guys using the new Woo Daves Extreme #ETX68MS 6'8" Spin rod with the split handle? In the Woo series they give a technique or style to his series rods. Are they calling it a split/drop rod or lite crankbait rod? To which lure style do they have in? I was not able to find it on the rack and don't like the idea of buying a rod sight unseen.

I currently use (2) Woo trigger rods and (1) spin rod and feel the tip action is right in line as to the technique listed. I must say I'm very happy with them. If I know what the technique is I may just order it. Thanks for the help.

It's the drop shot rod. Marke picked one up this spring, but I don't now if he's used it yet.

Craig

Spanky,

As Craig mentioned, I did purchase this rod when it was on Sale for $59.99. I have it rigged with a Quantum Catalyst PTi30 reel and 8lb Trilene XL. I purchased primarily as a drop shot rod but I have thrown #9 and #11 Rapala's with it.

I've been very happy so far, as I have been with all of my BPS Extreme and Pro Qualifier rods. The one thing that surprised me is that very top portion of the handle is foam and NOT cork. When I met Woo Daves at Bass Master University I asked him why this was. He stated that he wanted to design a well balanced rod and that foam is lighter than cork. For additional balance, the butt is threaded for use with the XPS rod balancing kits.

I have caught several bass this year on it and I am happy with it's action, sensitivity and overall performance.

Marke,

You only say all of that because you got to hang out with Woo!!! LOL!!!

I have Mac's phone number and he knows Wally Marshall who Crappie fishes with Woo....so you know, Woo and I are pretty tight like that....LOL

CIII, the Kevin Beacon game is where you try to link every actor in Hollywood to Kevin Beacon (he is an actor that has had a lot of bit parts). Used to be a riot drinking game.

Marke is all over this one. I've got one rigged with 8# XPS Fluorocarbon and can't count the number of spots it's caught on a drop-shot rig. Doubles for a nice light cranking rod also. (The missing cork from the butt end fits a fat guy's gut pretty good, too! LOL!) Make sure you get a balance kit. (The lighter kit has more smaller weights to fine tune it.) Balanced, it is one of the most sensitive rods I use. IMHO

How did you know I was a fat guy? No........... I just short for my weight.

Something I've always wondered.....

Do the Pro's really design the rods themselves or have any input into their design? Or do the manufacturers simply pay them to put their name on a rod that they have already designed?

Really now! I want the truth here! Please!

I really do expect the latter, but it takes nothing away from the rods. My three Extremes are the Woo series; they were exactly the length and action I had wanted and were not in the regular line-up of Extremes.

me!

They do design their own "signature" products. Teddy had a spinnerbait designed by Lunker Lure, it was part of his contract that HE wanted in there. We sold out of it at every show...It was designed for the Potomac and man-o-man did it produce!! You can go to Retriever Lures (sponsor of mine) and have any bait custom made. It is a neat feature.

Yes. The two new rods in the lineup are Woo's creations. (6'8" Spin. / 7'4" Cast.) The casting rod is rapidly becoming a favorite crankbait rod as well. The rest of his series were the tried and true Extreme rods from years before, just highlighted after his use of several specific models and winning the Classic. The next year his own series was created using the lengths and actions he used during the classic. These two new rods have Woo's hand all over them. He done a good job, too!

I've got an Extreme. It's sort of a finesse style rod....7'6" heavy, stiff as a broomstick. It'll finesse their eyes right out of the socket.

Harpo

Harpo,

I've got one of those finesee rods too for jig-n-pig fishing!! Also have the Worm rod too. I bought the combos with Curados on them and like them.

Bob G.

I just looked; all three of my Extreme/Curado combos are the Woo series.

Worm: 6'6" medium heavy.

Spinnerbait: 6'6" medium. (I also use for most crankbaits.)

Topwater: 6' medium light.

If I remember correctly, hassn't Sue D actually fished with Woo?

I fished with him on 'clair 3-4yrs ago,...had a blast!!

He was up here pre-fishing for the BASS Top150 the last time they were here. The dude is hilarious,..and man does he go through the "chew"....1/2 bag per chew!! Looks like he's got a golfball in his mouth all day!! LOL

I've had the pleasure of his company on numerous occassions, both on and off the water, and he is exactly what you'd expect. A fantastic fisherman and a wonderful person. Word to the wise: If you're ever behind him on the water, you can count on washing your boat when you come in. There'll be brown tobacco splatter all over it! (Well worth the company he provides! LOL!)
