Hello Bob,

I got a question about a fuel filter. Is a water seperating fuel filter needed. I have a 2005 Merc 150 xr6. If indeed you think it is a good idea, what one do you recomend. If i do install one, does it replace the inline ful filter or is it in addtion to it. Everyone has got me a little worried with all this ethonal talk lol.

Thank you

I use NOTHING but OEM Merc. They will not cause excessive vacuum IF the rest of the fuel system is up to par. My old 2.5, 11,000rpm 300hp drag outboard had one on it and it flowed just fine.....that's approx 33 gallons per hour.

As far as the ethanol, and due to it's attraction for water, maintenance is key. Make sure the filter contents are checked. Remove it, dump it into a clear plastic container, inspect what's going on, put it back on. If you find debris or water, the filter can be re-used a couple of times, then replace it. ;)

Edit....and it can be used in series with the in-line plastic one.......and be sure your pulse pump has been serviced recently. If not DO IT!!!
