Well, any trip to the back country would not be complete without a report on the food.
Basics:
Each person is allowed 100 lbs of gear, which includes any bait and their portion of the food. So planning for the food is a trick. Generally, we allow 40 lbs for personal gear, the rest for food/bait. Our bait allotment went way over, but that's another story.
Beverages:
We took advantage of the option to have beer, canned drinks flown up in advance for $10/case. We had plenty of beer and 'pop' for those that partake. Seems as though we had 1 'pop' drinker, 2 beer drinkers (yes, this is the Trep category), 1 novice level beer drinker (me), and one that stuck to milk/pop/lemonade/tang. Most all the other drinks (including milk) were made from powder. Note: If you make the powdered milk the night before and let it sit, it thickens up and tastes pretty good the next day. And of course instant coffee (tasters choice - not too bad either).
Food:
Fresh walleye (of course); brats, italian sausage, tenderlion, sandwich meat, stick sausage, cheese (many types), mac n cheese, other pasta dishes, scalloped taters (box), eggs, bacon, link sausage (breakfast), bread, breadsticks, rolls, soup, noodles, etc. All kinds of salad fixings plus some brocolli and cauliflower for both salads and steaming.
Snacks:
Their had to be 3 boxes dedicated to snacks. 4 or 5 types of candy bars, beef jerky, m&m's, cookes (5-6 types), peanut butter crackers, chips (multiiple flavors of pringles), salsa (ask Trep about this one and the chips), etc, etc, etc. Trepper can give you a better breakdown of the snacks, as this is his real passion in life. I'm sure I've left out MANY of the items, but Trep can fill everyone in.
Best meal of the week:
Fetticunini Alfredo with steamed brocolli and absolutely the best grilled Tenderloin I've ever had. This along with fresh rolls and a cold one to wash it down. It was cooked to perfection (rare to med rare for me), and was just about fork tender.
Second best meal of the week:
Anytime we had fresh walleye. Baked was okay, but fried or sauteed was the best.
