Got out Saturday early AM for the first time in a long time! Figured on giving the "boiled" bass (as MikeXpress calls 'em) a break and went out on Mattawoman Creek near the Potomac. A lot of the locals here know it as one of the busiest sections of the Potomac with Pro Tournaments on it darned near every weekend in the summer (or so it seems). Fortunately, I hit an off-weekend and only saw about two dozen bass boats in the Creek versus the usual seven dozen.
Launched out of the smaller ramp (Slavin's) and headed down to the main creek area. Had two guys in a Ranger blocking a path to a creek channel that could (and has) easily fished half a dozen boats, but rather than confronting a water-hogging jerk, I figured there were plenty of other spots to fish. So my neighbor Dave and I motored across that point to another. We were rewarded with about a half dozen or so nice bass including this one coming in at just about dawn.
It was at just about 2 pounds. Nice fight too! About an hour or so later, this little beauty came in.
I was pretty darned excited, because I figured I finally broke my three pound barrier. No luck. According to the digital scale, this beauty weighed in only at 2.5 pounds. Darned! We got several more on that spot before the morning was out. By about 11am, the bite died for us, so we packed it in early.
Hope all had good weekends as well!
