I've been doing it for a long time. If you get into it as far (and expensive) as I have, there are companies that will sell to you at wholesale prices if you have a business licence, which I did. The quality of those components was above and beyond what you can buy in mail order catalogs, but if you just want to do this for fun, or to make stuff that you specifically want and nobody has, try some of these:
Stamina - the website is non-existent right now, I don't know if they are having problems or not, but Stamina Tackle was one of my favorites when I was buying retail.
