After hunting in VT and PA, I ended my week in PA with a 9 pointer on my last day today. The day started out at 3 degrees F!! I was determined to sit in my spot to the end of the day. I even put heater packs in my boots and gloves to ward off the cold, as it has been wearing me down all week! Then a buck walked out of the hemlocks at 11:50am. I verified that it met the 3 point antler restriction and fired away. Standing broadside shot at 35 yards. It was the perfect end to a week of hunting with my dad. I got two does on Monday and Dad got a doe on Wednesday. I can't wait to get home tomorrow and relax!

Nice Bob... I'm available for dinner anytime that's convenient for you...lol. 3 degrees is a little "brisk"... Supposed to be about 40 here tomorrow...Going walleye hunting in the am...you're welcome to join us... might be a little warmer than you like though!

Nice job Bob, But are you ever going to Smile in any of your Pictures??

Stacey says well Done.

Congrats Bob, nice way to end a season....Now you can relax and eat good....

Got back to VT tonight and am glad to park it in MY recliner!!

John, I refuse to smile in pics! I'd hate to ruin my persona!!

Greg, I'll fax you some steaks!! Send some of that 40 degree weather this way so my wife won't have to shovel so much!! I'm glad she doesn't read my posts or she might throw her shovel away!! She did learn to drive the garden tractor/snowblower before I left for hunting.

NICE DEER Bob,.......good job buddy!!! (Hey,..next time SMILE!!,..This isn't a highschool yearbook football team pix!!!)..LOL

Nice job Bob. Any buck is a good one. By the looks of him, he had odd genentics. To get up to 9 points and not mass more can only mean he didn't have the genetics. The face looks like about a 4 year old too. But that neck is swollen. Rutting good was he. Did he follow a doe or did you have doe scent out? How much did he dress out at? Man, I would love to have bagged one like that this season. Hell, I would have loved a spike horn last weekend with the way my season went. So I've checked the fax, and still no steaks, when are you sending them???? LOL

Nice one. It feels good not to have that "gotta get one" pressure anymore doesn't it?

Rob,

I estimated that it was only a 1 1/2 year old. He only weighed 110#. There are really good genetics in the area. His rack is a basic 6 pointer with 3 sticker points at the bases. There are other stickers that didn't count. Sticker points are not that common in our area. He walked out on a trail that six doe were on an hour prior. He looked like he was just chillin out when he appeared and then stopped for a perfect broadside shot. I was really happy to end my week with any buck that met the 3 point antler restriction. I saw about 80 deer during the past week. I know some are the same ones from day to day in the same area, but it's nice to get a look at em. Some days they become invisible when you know they are there.

Rob,

Here is a sample of the genetics in the area that I hunt in PA. This is my first buck that I got in 1977. My father has gotten quite a few with racks like these.

And here is one that I got in 1984. I have a lot of scrub racks too, and they taste just as good!!

If he was only a year and half buck and had that height, than that explains the lack of mass. He would have been a monster in a few more years, but the old dilema if you let him go, somebody else is sure to take him. Same with my 9 last year, the taxidermist said one more year would have turned him into a 10-12 point monster. But I'm sure someone else would have tagged him before that. I did find out what happened on my lot, the owner caught a guy shooting deer during bow season with a rifle. I estimate he took off over 6 deer and at least 2 were bucks and one was likely the big boy. That's the only time you don't hear about it when someone takes a big one, when it's illegal and they don't want anyone to know. Lucky I didn't catch him. How much is the going rate these days to have a poacher stuffed and mounted????
