Has anyone else had problems pumping gas into a 911 tank? I don't know if this is a problem with other 9 series boats (or just mine) but when I fill up my 911, I either pump for an hour or get a bath.. I found that if I use a small board to hold up the gas intake hose on top of the tank a little it won't cut out the pump constantly. I'd sure like to find a proper solution for this year...

Ideas?

Sounds as if a hose (????) from the inlet to the tank may be kinked/bent. Though - I'm not familar enough with the boat/design to know if a hose is even used.

Scott, Check your vent tube also. I had a 94 Tracker that I had to go with a bigger vent tube.

I have to angle the nozzle to fill my 901 also,....i don't have to hold it upside down,...but more at a 3:00 position!

(and it's usually 3:00am!!..LOL)

i have the lx700 model and i have noticed this on mine also. i'm wondering if the inlet hose just isn't long enough like on a car to keep this from happening. i only have a 27 gal tank and it does take some time when the tank is empty. i've tried all the positions and if the pump has good pressure, it is just goin to take awhile on my boat. i hope someone knows of something that would help. i usually fill up the truck and then pull forward to fill up the boat. i'm happy that the clerk doesn't run out and shoot me thinkin i'm a drive away or something. i bet you guys with 50+ gal tanks do have to wait awhile when it is shutting off on you.

I've had to figure each boat I've owned out like that. It's a matter of how the hose runs down to the tank. If you get the nozzle pointing the same way, it should be fine.

I can't remember... With my optimax, I don't have to fill it but every 45 years :).

I think I do it "upside down" as well. I think it just seems to fit in better. The hose is almost parallel in there, so the more nozzle you get in there, the better, hence upside down working better.

(My apologies. That was completely inappropriate and I apologize to anyone who read that initial pre-edited message. I hereby retract my statement.)

Mike - you're killin' me.... I think I have to gas up my EFI every 45 minutes... :)

I've always just filled the tank REAL slow but last summer while in Canada, I had to fill up using an old style pump - the kind that you used to have to turn two handles and watch the little wheel swirl around inside the glass bowl.. It only had ONE speed!!

The ensuing bath in gasoline (I didn't get excited when it drenched me, but when it got on the gel coat - well that demanded a solution!) forced me to improvise - what I found was if I took about a 3ft piece of 1x2 and slid it up under the fuel intake hose and pried it up about 2 inches, I could pump at full speed....

I'm gonna engineer a permanent solution somehow - I was curious to know if others experienced the same problem..

MAT - you're right, 58 gallons is a LONG TIME at the pump when you can't even pull the pump handle to the first notch...!

I have a solution for ya, stay out of Yankee/Frenchie land :). If the pump was that old, you probably didn't WANT the gas. Besides, up there, they believe the octane rating is "aboot" 87 or 97 or something.

You did use UNLEADED gas, right?

Mo, I'm sorry I missed your inappropriate message. I like your inappropriate messages.

darn, missed it too! put that msg back up MoFish (gotta be quick on this board).

I also have to turn the gas nozzle up when I fill my 901 or it keeps shutting off. Must be poor venting.

Folks.....I have had to do this on almost every brand bass boat I have ever filled up. There are multiple reasons for it and it usually boils down to lack of venting of air for the amount of fuel being dispensed. Some boats are better than others, some boats have the tendancey to get fuel spilling into the vent hose. If the fuel doesnt properly drain to the tank, you have a problem. Driving on the road on a trailer seems to be a great way to get fuel into the vent hose. If the fuel nozzle is not pointed in the direction of the fill hose you will have a problem. Find the sweet spot or slow down on your filling.

Ever try to fill a bass boat on the water while standing in the boat? The boat lists to one side and makes filling a chore....

I've experienced the venting problem before on other boats -this one is different. I think if I could shorten the fill hose some to remove the "sag" it has, the gas wouldn't backup into the pump handle. That is sort of what happens when I use the board to raise the fill hose up. When I have it raised up, I can fill it with the pump handle nearly wide open. I just wish I could get my hands in arounds better - all the room a 911 has and I still can't fit my hands in there.. :)

It would be nice to come up with a solution - I'll keep you all updated...
