Funny how a Canadian company had to buy the Evinrude brand before the motor could have a stars & stripes cowl. Saw a few of these at the Atlanta boat show. They look really cool.

It's also possible to get 7 years of warranty coverage on these puppies. That should help bring the reputation back a bit.

Nice job, Bombardier.

Rich,

It is my belief that the OMC/Bombardier Evinrude is the best motor out there today. Can you imagine the "look" of that motor on the Nitro Patriot Boat.

i think that the rudes will be back stronger than ever. it will take some time to gain the confidence back after the older fichts. 7 yrs warranty ought to help a lot and makes a good statement. for folks buying new boats, the decision of which motor will be tough - merc, rude, or yamaha.

First off, I'm not a mechanic, nor do I know from experience which motor is better than any other.

However, a 7 year warranty doesn't make the motor any better. It only determines who might get to pay for the repairs.

I believe the colors are a marketing ploy, then again, I don't think anyone disagrees with me. But, at least this isn't another 9/11-inspired greed over grief attempt, but I believe is more of a full-frontal attack on Yamaha.

I don't think you'll find a more "pro-American" group than outdoor enthusiasts. Mercury's reputation has caused many to jump ship to Yamaha (not that Yamaha's reputation didn't help too), and these people would LOVE to "buy American" if they could get the same performance and reliability at the same cost. I believe Bombardier is trying to hit that nail on the head.

It'll take a lot of guinea pigs before I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon. Besides, aren't these the same people that make most of the PWCs? That can't be good :).

Mike...

I don't like Jet Fleas... But, BOMB makes the best fleas... and ATV's, marine and aircraft engines and high speed rail equipment. Bomb is an "engineering driven" company. That seven year warranty is also a pretty good statement by Bomb that they think they won't be paying much in those seven years. And, note, that you don't hear any of those "My Ficht died" stories any more. Now that might be due to a severe drop in market share but it is also due to the fact that they don't die anymore.

I know of two dealers who jumped ship to Yamaha from OMC and are now negotiating to get the new OMC/Bombardier motors back. Another dealer who stayed is "ecstatic" about the new motors. I agree that it will take some time to "prove" but I will be getting on the new Bomb wagon next year when "Junior" gets out of college and I can afford a new rig.

BTW the new Johnsons are really four stroke Suzukis

Went to the Evinrude site and checked out the data for their 150 hp. The performance specs look good until you compare them to my xr6 150 on my Avalanche. They'll never catch me.

i don't know if the colors are a marketing ploy or not. i think evinrudes have always had red white and blue. the blue on my older motor was kind of a light blue. used to be that the warranties didn't matter much on a rude cause it was going to last forever anyways. you can bet the rudes are going to be marketed to the extreme as they HAVE to. Rudes may rule again someday.... until then, my mercury takes care of me just fine.

after thinkin about it, yeh, i think they are marketing. looks good though!

My 1st State Team Nitro had a 175 'Rude on it....it was a '93 190DC.....that boat was THEE fastest boat I've ever owned.....still to this day I haven't had one come close, except for my '98 896 with a 200EFI........but that 175 was a screamer!! loved that boat!! ;O) BTW,..the motor was a dark navy blue with red and white lettering....
