Does anybody know if you have to carry an anchor on board?I have a proteam 175 and sometimes i don't bring my anchor!! thanks mark

It is part of the recommended list by the Coast Guard, but not required..But check with your state, because some may require them.

Check your State Boating Law's. I myself have never lived in a State that "required" an Anchor. Some States might just think it might be a good idea to have one in your boat.

i carry one. it comes in handy, last year during a tourney i had a trolling motor problem( if only i knew how easy the fix was) and it saved my fishing day. i was c-rigging in deep water and i would just anchor on a spot, fish for a bit and then move on to the next spot. the one i have i got at northern bass. its a small folding fluke type anchor that weighs 3 pounds, the flukes dig in nice and it holds my 882 well even in waves and wind. the kit i bought somes with a storage bag and rope and it takes almost no room in the boat when folded and in the bag. it cost like 25 bucks

i agree with jim. i had the larger fluke style and found i could go down in size to the smaller ones that don't take up much storage at all. i do some catfishin and have to anchor on occassion. always keep a pair in my boat. my boat is a lx700 17' nitro. the anchors held well even in the arkansas river when the water was rising.

I agree with mini....had to tow a boat off breakwall on Erie one year...their motor quit and NO anchor...fiberglass doesnt do rip rap well...

I have two..just in case. I have the Electric Anchormate with an 18 lb. weight and it really comes in handy when your by yourself and it's windy and you need to anchor but, keep your boat in place at the same time. I have it mounted on the nose of my 185 and the switch is right behind my seat....works great. I also have a fluted anchor for crappy or bluegill fishin' and you don't want to move.

NY says you have to have one with at least a 50' anchor rope and a seperate 50' tow rope. You should never leave without one. I lost my TM prop one time and it was the only thing that allowed me to stay and fish. Eventually the wind got so strong it snapped my anchor line. Yeah, that's right, it was a baaaad day. But that's another story.

New York makes no sense. What are the chances of you using your anchor AND your tow rope at the same time?

Man, you have NO idea. Can't use cell phones in the car anymore either without a headset. Can cause crashes dontchaknow! WELL so can picking your nose if you ain't paying attention, but they didn't outlaw that! LOL In NY, your wife can have an affair, thus causing a divorce, and then get nearly HALF your pay.....SHE'S the one that screwed up, or somebody else or....well you get the point! LOL Once again, if it wasn't for Champlain, I'd move so fast you'd guys wouldn't notice I was missing until you had a new yankee neighbor moving in! LOL

Pa. requires you have a throwable device within arms reach. I was checked last year and read the riot act for not having it out. My question was "being alone who the **** is going to throw the thing to me". The officer did, could not answer me !!!! Go figure!

Mark-I never use my anchor but keep it for safety sake.I fish the rivers alot and if any thing ever happens and I lose all power,at least I can throw anchor so I'm not just drifting along in barge traffic.
