Got to thinking about what Tex said, I prefer a single. I like all the extra room.

I posted the following in a reply to an earlier post.

The 898 has bolt on console. Why doesn't someone invent a removable console for the passenger?

I thought about some nice trimed out slots on the inside of the boat and at the back end of the rod box. The console would have some metal tabs with a threaded hole in it that slid down in the slots, you could then tighten it up w/a big hand bolt, something similar to the big hand bolt you use to tighten tension on hand control trolling motors. Should only weigh about 30 lbs and could be taken in or out when ever you wanted to.

I prefer dual myself and so to my tourney partners, co-anglers and clients. I've never had it get in the way. However, your idea is a great one Kenny. You can have both if want it. You ought to draft it up and apply for a patent. NO joke. How do you think good ideas come to be? Somebody had to 1st think of it.

If my boat had a removable console, I'd keep in place during the cold months, and remove it during warm weather. Wind/weather protection on cold days are the big benefits of the second console. On a warm day, the second console just takes up space.

That would be a huge selling feature for me.

Champion had a removable console a few years back on the elite boats. Im not sure if they still make it or not. a guy in my club has one on a 2000 193 elite. its a nice feature to have. there are times i live to be able to remove my second console.

The new Cougar FTD from BassCat has a removable console. Agree that this should be a more common feature.

My current boat is a dual, but my next one will be single. I fish alot of individual T's and the passenger console just seems to get in the way.

I've only fished from one single console boat - the 929 Rich borrowed from Tracker for the first rally..... The second morning, with the rain, I rode a good deal of the time with my hands in front of my face! Hadn't had so much fun since I was a teenager and caught a cicada in my teeth while riding a borrowed motorcycle!

Somehow, that extra space doesn't seem all that necessary to me!

I believe that Champion still has the removable consoles. My understanding is that many of the mfg's now have them. I don't think they 'advertise' it as much though. As Scott has said, the extra space is generally not needed that much.

Down here (NC/SC), the vast majority have single console boats. Obviously, they don't fish with their wives very often!!!

And Rich . . .

The breeze (initially) when we got going was nice on Saturday (since it was warm here - almost 80) - but the 'stress' of fighting the wind was very tiring.

Different strokes for different folks.

Tex

See my 18 footer is a single but the 896 is a dual. I fished from the 896 most of last season and never had a problem. Never gets in the way. I have caught some BIG fish for up here at least, and have rarely had to leave the front deck to land one. When I do, I just shout to the guy in the back and run down thru the middle. No biggie. And a 20 lb northern qualifies as big anywhere! They're notorious for running under the boat. I like the weight balance of a dual.

Does this mean my walk-through isn't even a consideration...LOL Guess it's only sensible if you fish for walleyes and launch when the air temp is 6 degrees and the wind chill runs in the minus numbers... But, then only real men drive tin and fish for toothy fish...lol....
