Quick question. My boy is real sick right now, he has croup and bronchitis, on the verge of pneumonia. He was having such a hard time breathing they gave him an injection of steroids. They claim it will keep his throat from closing. Anything potentially dangerous with giving a 4 year old steroids? We can't get him to take them orally even with 3 parts hershey chocolate syrup to 1 part medicine. Tastes that bad, so he went in again today for another shot. Just makes me uneasy. I think doctors these days tend to look for the easy way out too often, and usually at the expense of the patient. I don't want my boy to have some serious problems later because he was given this stuff when so little. Anyway, anything you know would be appreciated. I don't recall the name, but will get it tonight.

I was going to say what Wolf did,..they are not the same kind of steroids that body builders misuse,.....don't worry, Rob...Cody will be able to kick your narly arss soon enough without those,...just do what your Dr. tells you to do! Been there,....it isn't always easy, but it's almost always mandatory! LOL.....Fishing is a LOT easier than raising kids!!

Hey Rob hope your place is big enough for us all to get together for the BFL Tournament on Champlain. Talked to somebody else who called them personnally and it's on for Mooney Bay.

Hey Rob!

I remember too well the panic trips to the hospital with my son due to croup. Normally happens at night too, which makes it worse. Here's hoping that Cody does the same as my son and outgrows it quick.

Feel better Cody!

Rob,

i think the steroids are getting pretty common right now for medicinal purposes. i've had them when i went to the hospital for a really really bad sunburn i will never forget. i think you are wise for checking into it further just to be sure. hope he gets better soon.

Rob,

When our son was six or seven he had the croup very bad...wheezing hacking... Our Pediatrician suggested that we bundle Jeff up and step outside for a few minutes... It worked every time... No "garaontee"... then we also did the steamer and tent...

Sorry, I went ice fishing today...yeah real smart it was 8 below this morning....

anyway Alan is right short term is no problem and the most common side effect is mood changes and stomach upset..so give with food....

Alan and Wolfcount... are you guys members... Thanks for the replies... Join up if you haven't..

Thanks everyone. I got a vaporizer for his room and run the humidifier on hi. That seems to be helping. I think the dry air was aggravating his soar throat and he'd start coughing. That was the worst, once he started coughing it would evolve into a fit of hacking and choking. I tried sitting him up, I haven't gotten much sleep as I rock him in the chair most of the night to keep him upright. When your 4 year old looks up at you all pale and pitiful and says, "daddy will you pray for me so I don't die." That really tears you up even though you know it's not quite that serious. That a 4 year old can say that chokes you up. Big burly, manly daddy reduce to tears by a 4 year olds worries.

Jim, there's always room you know that. I talked to Mark the other night and he's coming with a clan too. We'll have the ceremonial BBQ the night before after the meeting to ensure a NTOWS victorious tourney!

I took the steroids when I was about 12 or 13. They are not the like the anabolic. These are corticord steriods - anti-flamitory. Thus the name cort-aid to reduce swelling or cortisone shots. Same principle but just a little stronger.

Well now my little girl is coming down with it. This sucks! I hate winter! Just hope it skips me this time. My wife has been good and healthy all winter which is backwards from most years!
