After having some slight discomfort in my left shoulder and down my arm after a brisk walk or after climbing stairs, I thought it would be a good idea to have the doctor check it out. The first EKG showed nothing and the stress test was inconclusive the doc schedlued me for a heart catheterization where a catheter is inserted into the main artery in the groin and a dye is injected into the heart and observed under an xray.

Long story short, I had 90% blockage. The doctor performed a ballon angioplasty and placed a stent into the artery suppling blood to my heart to keep it open. The doctor said I was very close to having a major heart attack. Scares the hell out of you to know how close you get to "THE BIG ONE".

A life of barbeque, burgers, and fried everthing has come to an end. So all you 40 or 50 something guys who are living on the edge 50 or a 100 lbs overweight and eating like you're 17 BEWARE! It will catch up to you. I feel real lucky that I didn't have "THE BIG ONE". Do yourself a favor and get it checked out. My $0.02 spend how you wish.

Glad to hear your doing O.K.

Sorry to hear you have to give up all that good food.

WOWo close one, glad that it was caught early and you had the sense to be checked out.

soonerfan,

glad to hear you are OK. I had no idea. I haven't heard from you since we got back from springfield! i'm going to give you a call.

Wow Sooner, sorry to hear about the problem, but very happy to hear you are ok! egMike

Soonerfan. I work in a Cath Lab doing those Angioplastys and you'd be surprised at how young some of our patients are getting. We had a 25 year old come in last week having a massive heart attack. We were able to save him but his heart muscle is severely damaged and he'll never be the same. You give good advice- it's never too early to start taking care of yourself. I'm glad you found out early enough to catch it before it closed down and caused permanent damage. Believe it or not fishing is a great way to relieve stress and help to prevent stress induced coronary artery disease.(a good excuse if your Wife doesn't like you going too frequently!) Live long and well.

Glad to hear your ok and very smart to go have the pain checked out. Hope you recover fast.

Im sure you will feel/fish 1000 times better now that your getting the oxygen you were needing... my day isn't far off, why do we wait to get healthy???

Glad to hear you're doing alright. Good thing you weren't as block-headed as us Murray's and went to see the doc. My daddy had a hernia for close to 6 month and used the end of a broomstick to push it back in whenever it bothered him. Can't do crap like that with your heart!

Take care of yourself and rest up...big weekend at Fork coming up soon and we need you to be 100%!! Quit eating the fried junk and take a lesson from the cajuns...BOIL!! Twice as tasty and better for you. We'll get you started with some crawfish and shrimp on the 11th.

Again, glad to hear you caught it and that you're feeling better. Take care...

Harpo,..glad to hear you caught it early!!...Guess that means no more buffet's next year at BPS aye?? LOL I'll take your advice and cut back myself!! Thanks!!

Mac

Harpo -

Glad to hear they caught it!

As many here know, at age 41 (12 years ago), I was diagnosed with severe blockage and had a quintuple (5-vessel) bypass. At 5'6" and 145#, I'm proof that you don't have to be overweight to have problems.....

And for anyone facing catheterization or any such proceedure - take my word for it..... The proceedures ain't so bad!

The people in the Cath Labs and Cardiac ICU's are WONDERFUL! I'm alive today thanks to them!

God bless everyone!

me!

Great to hear you'll be back on the lake soon. I will be 43 this June and I'm already starting to cut back on the fried, fast foods that's killing most Americans nowadays. Most people don't have options to eat healthy....there's one on every corner. I'm down to 172lbs.(BN) and when I even eat a pizza once a week...I feel guilty. I have enough bad habits...I don't need to add to it with food.

Always good to hear positive results. Tight lines and veggie burgers! I'm in the process of scheduling some 'doc time' to get checked out. Been way too long.

Good catch. Glad it worked out. It's always good when you learn BEFORE the trouble hits. I feel your pain big dog. Now just lose that OU hat and most of your worries are over! LOL And for the last time, getchya some Omega 3. It works wonders for the heart. Now don't go gettin laid up anytime soon. You gotta make a trip out here to catch some real toads this year.

Thanks for all the good thoughts guys. Real glad it didn't get to the triple bypass stage. I've had a couple of friends who went up that creek. The worse pain I had was a backache from sleeping on the GD hospital bed. James is my witness-- we had lunch at my favorite omelet/chickenfried steak joint today and I had a salad. Day one OK.

Hey Rob, After OU wins the Final Four and the Football National Championship in January all you guys will be wearing OU caps. (If that comes true I'll buy OU caps for everybody)LOL
