Can someone break it down and tell me the difference between a XR6, EFI, Optimax and 2 stroke vs 4 stroke.

Ok thanks guys. Next question, is there any reason I should NOT get a XR6 over the EFI. What advantages does the efi have over the XR6. I'm trying to keep the cost down as much as possible and do not want to spend the extra $2000 if it does not make much of a difference. I could use that money to get a GPS unit . Because of cost the Optimax is not an option.

This will go on the back of a 2005 901 CDX.

Ranger, thanks for the in depth explaination. This is exactly the information I was looking for.

Thanks again,

Leon

Actually, EFI's can be either 2 or 4 stroke. As for comparing EFI and XR6, if better fuel economy and easier starting are worth the extra bux, than go for it.

Leon, If you are going to get a 200hp motor get the efi. The 200 efi is a 3.0l vs 2.5l that the xr6 200 is. The 3.0l will give you more low end torque and get the boat out of the hole better. I know a few people who have 901's with the 2.5l 200hp motor and they have a poor holeshot.

There is nothing wrong with the xr6 if thats the way you want to go, i have a 150 xr6 on my 882 and im very pleased with it. It has been pretty bulletproof.

Here are some more points.

Optimax/DFI. No smoke, easier starts, better idling, better resale.

Oil is injected into the piston sleeve, not mixed with the gas. This eliminates a good portion of the smoke and emissions. Gas is injected at 80psi into the cylinder which creates a vapor that burns more completely.

Carb'd and EFI will really smoke upon intial start up due to oil build up.
