Sealant Issues: problem I have experienced with silicone is its adhesion properties (or lack of) and workability or "tooling" of the sealant. The Sealant I would use is made by DAP or MacClenburg Duncan and is a "caulk" that you can usually find at the home improvement stores. Not all carry this particular one. What you need to look for is the "230" grade. This is a military specification and is sometimes only listed in the specs or properties section on the tube. I think MacClenburg advertises this as the "50 year" caulk. The '230' grade will adhere even when applying underwater (i haven't tried this but I believe it). This will act like silicon but has excellent adhesion properties. Ideal for fiberglass. It is very workable and cures in about 24 hours. It also remains very flexible and forms a watertight seal. I highly recommend this. You can get it in clear, white, almond, or bronze color and it is paintable. Trust me on this one guys as this stuff is awesome. I've used it for about 5 years now and it has never failed me. Cleans up real easy too. Hope this helps, and remember "230" grade.
