I picked up this hint from one of the fishing shows last winter.....

To keep your crankbits from getting all hooked together.....

Take a rubber band, catch one hook of the rearmost treble with it, catch one hook of the front treble and then wrap the rubber band around the lip until tight.

You'll also be able to pick the crankbaits up without hooking yourself!

of course, getting that mess undone whilest trying to fish is yet another story...

I tried that, and quickly just bought more plano 3700s so I can seperate better, 2-3 cranks per bin at most.

seems like the rubber bands would provide even more stuff to get trebles tangled up in!!..LOL...I use 370 boxes also...but even they can get too full and stuff get's all tangled!! Trebles are just a pain...period!! HA!

Speaking of 3700's, someone gave me a tip that worked. I was always having to replace boxes that warped from the heat during the summer. So I drilled several small holes in each box to let them "breathe". Problem solved. I don't know why I never thought of that before :)

One other thing: I'd always been trying to find a way to make spinnerbait storage happen with 3700's, since those boxes are the perfect size for my boat's storage areas. Plus, they fit in my soft-sided bag when I'm in someone else's boat.

So I removed all the tabs, leaving only the two stationary dividers. I took my Dremel tool and cut notches every

1 1/2 inches in those divider walls. The baits sit in those notches. I also took 3/8" foam weather-stripping and put it across the inside of the lid, where it touches the stationary dividers. When the lid's closed, the foam keeps the spinnerbaits from coming out of the notches.

I was so proud of myself, until I saw in the new BPS catlog that Plano now offers a box like that! Oh, well. There's no such thing as an original idea :) It was still fun to make....

I use the BPS 370 boxes and have them in the tackle bags in a compartment. When things get busy, sliding them in and out of the bags is a hassel. I'm thinking of making a rack of some kind for the boxes to stand up in. Has anyone else done it...I'm looking for ideas.

Gene,

John Foster fabricated a rack for in a storage compartment to hold tackle boxes. Check the Grab Bag.

yeah, that looks like an even bigger mess, and you will still have to untangle them, then take the rubber band off too. The motive was good Scott, just don't know if it's very practical. Have you tried it with success?

Yeah! I've been keeping them this way all summer - in 3700 boxes - and it works great! Don't hook myself anymore either!

BTW - Plano has a box specifically for spinnerbaits with the notches already cut. I think it's the 3704.

Jim -Thanks for the idea, I just spent the last few days re-organizing all of my storage and still have the spinnerbait box (the big tall fat one)! I think i'll take one of my many 370 boxes and cut the slots you mentioned!!

bought a tackle logic brand "spinnerbait & worm box" that i'm gonna try out this year for my spinnerbaits. it is a bit large, but looks functional. i did like the plano 37?? spinnerbait box (narrow height w/knotches) but the spinnerbaits moved around a lot. if the takle logic box doesn't work out, i will go back to the plano box. i will not take the time to use the rubber bands on crankbaits - i guess i havn't hooked myself enough times yet. knowing my luck, the rubberbands would melt in the summer and ruin my baits. thanks for the tip though and good pic.

Mr Marshall. Did you patend that idea if so you may have to sue me next week because I is going to use it..I have 4 or 5 extra boxes (no idea how I got that many) and my spinner baits are in bags stuffed next to the boxes in my tackle bag. No heres a Redneck at work for ya. When the bow of my TXS17 was repaired last spring I had to tear out one of the new storage boxes we had made..I could not find a removable box in the right size to fit in the hole we made..Well I bored and trying some stuff and found out that a plastic battery box fit right in place perfect..The 3700 boxes stack right on top of each other and I keep it full of the stuff I know works on Conowingo lake..So when I am there I hardly ever have to pull my tackle bag out I just open the lid and everything I want is right there....

I have been doing this with my cranks for two years now and it works great.Just remember to take off the rubber bands before fishing, you cannot hook a fish like this. Not that I've ever done it.
