I have a 3.5 floppy that I've been using for a few years, and suddently I cannot pull up anything from it. I get a message telling me that it is not formatted.

Do otyher disks work in the floppy drive?

The disk is bad then. Floppy disks do wear out over time due to friction. The head actually touches the disk and over time it will wear it out. If the drive reads other disks then the disk is bad.
