Thought I would post this for just an fyi.

My partner and I have been fishing some opens up in Maine. Both times we have taken my boat because of the fishability and reliabilty (his being an 89 Stratos).

On both occasions we have talked with a couple other teams while waiting around for take off. Most of them running glass...Nitros, older Rangers, new model "others", etc.

I have had many compliments on my boat so far (only TV-18 I have seen yet). Even one from the president of the New Hampshire BASS Federation!!!! He mentioned how he liked the ride of the TV-18 as well! And he was driving a Triton TR-21!

A few of the guys asked about a price of one, a couple are even thinking about switching to tin (older model glass guys).

Just thought I would share...now if only I could afford that 150 XR6, they'd really be impressed :)

They have come a long way with tin and it's only gonna' get better. Can't wait for Tracker to come out with a "Formed Mod-V" like the Avalanche..heard rumors maybe around 04' or 05'. Chalk up another Happy Tin Man :)

PPPPPPPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! Once you've had glass, you'll never go back!!

Yeah, tin has come a long way but can't forget it's roots of a customer base of fishermen and women who want a boat for a fair price and durable. Durability may be there but the fair price aspect is starting to fade. When a Ford

Tauras Station wagon costs as much as a Corvette...What are you gonna choose and who cares about trunk space!!? Big boats, big motors, big price tags....Doesn't matter if it's glass or tin at that point!!

TOXIC

Ahhh .....Come on Tox. You tryin' to tell me that I'll poke a hole in my tin before your glass would would bust up like kindlin' wood? O. K....I'll buy that......NOT!

TEE

Actually TEE in "Some instances yes. The tail of my boat has 2+ inches of fiberglass and would probably withstand much more impact because although it may crack, it won't tear like tin. That's not my point though. What I was saying is that when the boats and motors get to the same price tin will lose unless there is some mitigating factor. If you tell me that an Avalanche will take a rock hit better than my 929, I would say at the speed required to damage both boats, the damage will be equal. Tin loses it's advantage. Now beaching and bellyrolling over rocks and stumps will damage both boats. My gel will crack but will the tin come out looking like new?......NOT. Especially if it is painted tin. Neither rig is in danger if sinking either. Tin advantage? Not really. You seem to think that because it is called "glass", it will shatter like glass. In actuality it is very flexible and yeah, it will scratch and crack. Your tin will crease, wrinkle and rip. I think the "danger" point (sinking) of both is very close. I have my doubts that the foam injected into the tin would keep it afloat as well as glass (in a boat of the same size). Push aside all of the hype and funnin we do and I really think they are close.

TOXIC

I agree with the price difference being close. But other options have to be thought out when comparing. Without getting into a tin vs. glass debate for the umpteenth time;

2003 TV-18 with 150XR6: $18625 plus freight and rigging

2003 NX882 with 150XR6: $18995 " " " "

Now, which weighs less, ease of towing? Which is faster? Which has more room? Can carry more people? etc...

I'll be honest, right now it would be pretty tough to leave the showroom without the 882 for that money, but I would buy the TV-18 again.

That price difference between the 882 and the TV-18 is non-existent. That's an interesting point... the 882 is a lot of boat for the $$$ and the TV-18 is a lot of performance at that price as well... hmmmm

Now that I think about it a little more, the TV-18 is actually the better buy. Only because the extra $370 can go towards something else. With a jack plate and the correct prop, dialed in right, the TV-18 will be an even match performance wise. It has more storage with the build in deck extention added in, weighs less and has a bigger gas tank (1 gal.).

I can't imagine doing 65 in that boat :)

MO - what does 60 feel like???

This tin vs. glass debate is getting old.....

As long as it floats....
